Very good on seasoned oak, not so good on not so seasoned pine we use up here. Can need a bit of work if the blade hits a knot on a way too big section that should have been cut up further with the chain saw. You'll need a decent stump to put it in and it needs hammered in every now and again just to keep it secure in the stump. I used to cut up offcuts from the sawmill with a chainsaw, then split them up with the splitter on an "as needed" badis, job done! Honda Dog U better DUCK!!!!!

Cheaper alternative

A decent maul (not an axe, it's much, much wider, like a wedge rather than a knife) will get through your logs comfortably. It's what real men use
And what short, chubby blokes use too
Have a sledge or lump hammer handy for the odd log where it sticks and you're away. Make sure you wear gloves though; I have an interesting scar where my thumb (still) joins my hand courtesy of a careless moment unsticking a maul. Carbon footprint? I neither know nor give a damn

Been using a maul for several years. Cheap but very, very effective.
