| Front Susupension knock- question |
|
Hi All ,
Ive been looking at the fourm now for quite a while and am just getting to terms with it(its a lot of information!).Im a recent enough owner of a 07 LR3 and would like to ask so many questions but ill start here ,I have knock on the front suspension when i tap the brakes and i think its the rear wishbone bushings. I brought it to the dealer and he has said these never go and replaced the anti roll bar bushings and a tie rod but it still has the noise . I wanted to know if anyone has had these replaced
Thanks
Alan

Firstly a warm welcome to the site mayoman nice to have another Irish member on board
There are issues with suspension knocking, relating to bushings on or around the anti-roll bar, so your dealer is correct there.
I wouldn’t be the most qualified to get into more detail on the issue, as for some time now I’m over on the “Dark Side” with a RRS. Which also has had similar issues to what you describe, all relating to the bushings.
In the case of my ’06 Sport, it was an ongoing saga, with several sets of bushings along with a new anti-roll bar & an updated steering rack being fitted, with no real solution to the knock being found. the car is since traded in, so I don't know if a resolution was ever found.
But that's on a RRS, so I'm sure that someone with more knowledge on the D3 than I, will be along I’m sure with a more definitive response.

With those symptoms, its definitly the bottom ball joints on the lower front wishbones. There are supposed to be new parts available.

My work was done under warranty. I had my front bushings replaced and it reduced the knock by 50%. I then went back and they replaced the steering rack. The knock is now cured and its like driving a new D3. USA

Thanks All for the replys and the warm welcome , might give the dealer another squeeze to see if he could have another look , I put it up on a lift myself but the only movement was on those large rear bushings.I might have to wait until it gets worse before i can really pinpoint it . Its more annoying than anything else otherwise its going great and having driven allsorts before i can genuinely say its the best 4 x 4 ive driven .
Have added a few bits like a HID kit and darkened side repeaters and a few more things to go, night even try the remote heater install .
Thanks again
Alan

Just had mine done under warranty today...(3 day job)
Lower ball joints, steering rack and bushes all replaced.
Fantastic - like having a new car, magic carpet ride is back and no more knocking.

I just posted on the RRS forum @ rangerovers.net about a related TSB issued here by LR North America a couple of days ago, not sure if it is a duplicate of one already published across the pond, but here is the link just in case (both Disco/LR3 and RRS without Dynamic Response are affected, regardless of model year): http://rangerovers.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=26705 Umberto B
