| Steering Wheel Surface Issue |
|
Hi All, I know there is a known problem with the steering wheel leather, mine has suddenly developed a dry/rough patch over a couple of days. As it is well outside warranty any advice on:
1. Is is a fix LR have been known to apply outside warranty
2. Is the RRS wheel interchangeable with the D3? Cheers

If you've got a good dealer and have been giving him all your business, he might be able to do it under warranty....but it's up to him.
Yes, I reckon the wheel is the same as the RRS.
But best contact TLO [Nick at Yeovil] don't think they're that expensive. slowly re-building my gallery after the wipe out !!!!

I wonder how LR get away with that one???
Effectively admitting there was a problem and replacing faulty steering wheels.
And then, saying NO, there not going to replace them?

Mine has suddenly developed a rough patch at 2 o'clock position. Seemed to happen really quickly. Anyone know what the cause is? Disco 3 TDV6 HSE

I've fitted one from an almost new RRS and it's exactly the same as the D3. New ones have better leather with a more coarse grain. I think they are about £80 ish for a new one - Nick did post the price one a steering wheel thread somewhere, but I can't find it now. Mine started doing this a couple of months back, it was out of warrenty by about 5 months dealer didn't want to know but made sympathetic noises.
Contacted Nick, its about 85 quid to replace dependent on VIN etc.

Dealer changed mine, with only a week of warrenty left,
Now the wheel position is slightly out then they out it on wheel aligner to adjust and its no better
They then told me a real porker when I asked about the wheel alignment they were to do, they said the only thing that can be adjusted on a D3 is the toe in and we dont put it in alignment mode either
So I was realy p ed off, and made the decision to get an inderpendant to do the wheel alignment as there was no use persueing this with someone who is so useless.
So as of next week the D3s problems will be mine........ OH F what does the future hold We will see.
Cheers

This is known issue that has affected many D3's in Australia due to the sun. LR replace them under warranty, no questions asked. My new one has been fine so suspect they have used a better quality leather now. Gotta get it dirty!

This has happened to mine too. Can it really be the sun though? Haven't seen much of that in the UK these past couple of years . Come to think of it though, I noticed my steering wheel had gone rough around the 2 o' clock position shortly after coming back from France at the end of July so maybe it was the sun! 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 HSE auto, Bonatti Grey/Tan Leather all the goodies - let down by pathetic alarm!
