OSX 10.5.5 has been released
Let's hope it fixed the wireless networking bug that Apple distributed with 10.5.4, which has made life miserable for many iMac users. It seems better so far, but my console still shows some airport drop-out, albeit much reduced.

Seems much better now. Whilst Apple's summary of the latest update doesn't mention the airport fix, it's probably hidden within the security update. Apple forums have been saying for weeks that the 10.5.5 update would contain this fix.
My lesson is to use Time Machine and not to upgrade the OS before setting a restore point.

Yes I got hung up on this one as well......on checking these was a whole bunch of resource working with or on the time machine.......but this seemed to be a "delayed action glitch" - it only stared late last week for me....my iMac slowed down to about the same level as a PC running XP.
10.5.5 fix seems to do the trick now back to quantum speed. ....have Disco3 HSE TD6 Auto...

Oh-oh, the console shows Airport beacon being lost again, but service is still much more reliable than it was. Maybe I'm just seeing the residual effect of my router being on the wrong side of a reinforced concrete floor.

Andrew, Macs aren't perfect but for the home they're a whole lot better than PCs IMHO. Very impressive, how Steve Jobs showed the world what UNIX and a pretty face could do. It must be said, though, that Mac's stability has got a lot to do with the fact that Apple controls the hardware and firmware to an extent that MS can't even begin to do. I'd still choose the Wintel platform for work, though ... not that I have any say in the matter.

If you explore the suppliers offerings you will now find software that will allow an Apple application to run in Windows......which to me is admission enough that apple applications are not only accepted but in most cases superior in both usability (I mean real work tasks) & presentation - simple to the point not like the latest Windows version of office.
I have both systems operable on my home computer (iMac)...if I have a task to complete I always use the Mac version...it just works ....have Disco3 HSE TD6 Auto...
....also S Type 2.7 Auto....

My work software is only XP compatible, not even Vista, so I run a virtual machine on my imac using Fusion, so I have an XP machine and a mac at the same time and it works well. DS3 TDV6 HSE

Will this update fix the known problems with wireless connection to Orange/Wanadoo router? I had problems with Time Machine and returned it and got my money back. The techies in the Apple store offered me a special tuition session specifically for setting up with Orange systems but it seemed way too complicated. Likewise, I can't connect to the wireless system with my Ipod at home but anywhere else it's fine.
Other than that, I'm well pleased with my Mac conversion and thanks to Barry G for pointing me in the right direction.

Reading through the thread & looking at the iMac software update list I now realise the issue with Time machine only started when a second computer logged onto my network up til then it worked A OK.
I took Peylma's lead & bought Fusion for my set up to use (instead of Parallels) this does the business & means I have both a Mac & an XP machine (that works very very well)......."Windows XP in a Mac window" I can close it down & then use a real computer....one that use an OS that isn't bought until the first update or has compatibility issues with mainstream software.
Microsoft ought to get real & make operating systems that are backwards compatible....there any many people with "old" Macs that are using the latest software & getting the benefits. ....have Disco3 HSE TD6 Auto...
....also S Type 2.7 Auto....

Don't understand? Try this:
Judith Butler, professor of rhetoric and comparative literature at the University of California at Berkeley, in a 1997 article in the Diacritics journal entitled Further Reflections on the Conversations of Our Time wrote:The move from a structuralist account in which capital is understood to structure social relations in relatively homologous ways to a view of hegemony in which power relations are subject to repetition, convergence, and rearticulation brought the question of temporality into the thinking of structure, and marked a shift from a form of Althusserian theory that takes structural totalities as theoretical objects to one in which the insights into the contingent possibility of structure inaugurate a renewed conception of hegemony as bound up with the contingent sites and strategies of the rearticulation of power.
Feel better, now, DSL?

I was never a fan of Althusserian theory, their first album was good but then when they changed Bassist, it all went downhill............................
