Best option for a second set of wheels / tyres

With pay day looming I'm toying with the idea of getting a second set of wheels / tyres for use green laning / off-road. I'm currently on 19" wheels (with Goodyear Wranglers - seem OK so far).

I've read through the forum but am undecided what combination would be best - they would only be used off-road.

I'm guessing 18" as this size seems to offer quite a wide choice of tyres - I'd probably want something like an MT/R?

Or will 17" fit and do they offer any advantages? (like being cheaper / more readily available)

I'm not concerned about looks etc as they'll not be used on the road - practicality is much more important.

Also any ideas on a reasonable price - with or without tyres.

Many thanks............... Thumbs Up

I've run mine on 19's with MTR's for 30,000kms now and not a problem. My 18's that came with the car are in the shed as I never found the need to put them back on.

I am running 265/65/17 General Grabber AT2's, they are a good all-rounder and very good off-road. Reason I went for them is that the rims are cheap as are the tyres at around £120 each as opposed to MTR's at £165 'ish

I've actually got 2 sets so might be persuaded to let one set of 5 go if the price is right Whistle

Does this mean that the D3 will be used in November Andy or the Defender?

Just for off road. For starters you want 6, as two spares is a good plan !!

I run HSE 19's on Scorpions and have 6 x 17" rims with Cooper STT's. Amazing off road, look pretty cool, Chris Tyler has them on 24/7 but I prefer the silence of road tyres.

Changing can be a pain, but 45 mins to an hour has it sorted. Good trolley jack, clarke torque gun. Good opportunity to clean up the arches and backs of wheels etc after a good weekend off road.

17's with STT's x 6 will probably work out a bit cheaper than the 19 / MTR solution. 18's offer a good 50/50 tyre but you want off-road.
