I'm getting the above after having quite a bit of wiring work done fitting a BT kit, UHF/VHF radio, screen and sat nav. Just wondering where to start looking for what is presumably a disturbed or broken wire that's causing this? Main areas we were into were the dash, LHS kick panel and under the bonnet, plus running power wires from the aux battery to the rear for a fridge. - Jeff K -

there is a sensor just below the offside bonnet catch. it may need re-seating or replacing. Had mine replaced once but the second time it happended a disconnect and clean sorted the problem. Duncan

Everytime we go off roading and I lift the bonnet this message keeps coming up. The mud gets in the switch under the bonnet as DiscoDunc mentioned and stops it working. You can see a micro switch if you look closely and I had to bend the contact to make it work again.

Thanks both. I'll have a look in the morning - I really wasn't expecting it to be the actual bonnet switch itself as all we did there was open it to get at the aux battery box, but the error was there on the trip home, so it defintely happened while all the work was getting done! I'd assumed they'd caught something while messing around in the footwell or something! Might save me a 2 hours round trip back to the installer if it is that simple though. - Jeff K -

Right, it's definitely the icroswitch, so thans for the tip. However, short of jamming it with a screwdriver nothing I seem to do to it makes it stay that way when I shut the bloody bonnet. Think LR can sort it now I know I didn't cause the problem with the work and it was probably just the fact we opened the bonnet to begin with! - Jeff K -

I had to bend the tab on the switch so that it moved further when the bonnet pin came down.
It is not really the right sort of switch to use where there is a lot of dirt etc, I am surprised they used it.

Don't mess around trying to fix it. Just pull the connectors off the microswitch and join them together. I have done this on mine after several failed attempts to fix the problem.
I can see if the bonnet is open or not, I dont need another bong to state the obvious  Silver TDV6 HSE

Had this problem recently. The switch is waterproof. I tried bending the curved metal actuator and initially didn't get it right so I unplugged the cable and put a cut off paper clip (U shape bit)in the pins of the plug and taped it up. Later I adjusted the arm correctly and all has been OK since. The latch arm that actuates the switch moves in a clockwise motion and not up and down so you need to take that into account when bending the actuator arm. You can test it by clicking the latch arm into the closed position with 2 screwdrivers instead of closing and opening the bonnet each time.
