Here's a hypothetical dilemma to uplift your Sunday evening.
Let's imagine you want to buy a genuinely capable 4x4 with all the necessary off-road attributes (such as low range gears, locking diffs, good ground clearance, strong build quality etc). You wish to take it round Boughrood and the Salisbury Plains, and use it on all the muddy occasions when you would otherwise use your D3.
However, you drive on-road a lot of the time and you want it to have lightening fast acceleration, super agile handling and sportscar-like road holding.
With money not a significant object, what do you buy?
Do you plonk for a Supercharged Range Rover Sport with Dynamic Response and spec it up with some VA style off-road equipment?
Or would you order one of the W12 VW Touaregs with 450bhp and 0-60 in 5.9s?
Is there such a car to satisfy the road man and the off-road man equally? Discuss DISCO3's Student Correspondent...

The lease on the road car has 11 months to run. Then it's going to be replaced by a D3.

Yep...I'm with Simon here....
The two concepts you're describing do not really go well with each other. Sports car handling and power do not (and probably cannot) be combined with soft suspension and long travel needed for serious off-road work.
For an out-and-out sports car I wouldn't even consider a 4x4 such as the RRS or Toerag, but each to their own. There are cars far better suited to this kind of role than a 3 ton 4x4.
If you insist, then I would buy a RRS Supercharged for the road (more than enough power) and occasional off-roading, and then I'd buy something else for serious go-anywhere-but-don't-need-it-to-be-comfy off-roading....
Would I buy a Defender for this second car?????
No.....I'd buy a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 2006 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue
2007 Golf GT DSG
1990 Audi 90 2.2E Sport 5-cyl Tornado Red

That's all very sensible... but where's the fun in that DISCO3's Student Correspondent...
