Thought I would pop over from Freel2 and ask the knowledgeable side of the forum too
My parents are looking at having there driveway relaid
Is there any government body or federation that they should look for like there is for builders ect
Seen and heard of so many driveway nightmares on programs like Rogue Traders, with the depth of the hardcore and tarmac not been up to scratch
Any help will be appreciated

Thanks for that, brought a list of local business up so it's a start
Do you have to pass certain criteria to join the FMB (as a sign of quality) or can you just pay your yearly premium and anybody join
Also does anybody know what minimum depth of hardcore and tarmac should be, so we know they are talking a good job?

I am a Stobart driver, that has to be contracted 3 days a week to Marshalls Mono, the landscape company. They are the premier driveway supplier if you are after block paving etc..........They have set up a ebay site, to sell off old / redundant stocks, a little secret, it aint redundant, its new stock from yards that have been shut down through credit crunch
Look up ebay, and their approved guys on the MARSHALLS REGISTER, this is an approved register for all councils, and the guys on there also do Tarmac surfacing...
Hope that helps PERMANENTLY IN THE SITE NAUGHTY CORNER

minimum of 150mm road stone well compacted (no garden rollers) 70mm of 25mm base tarmac , 30mm topping 6mm or 10 mm
a geotextile membrane under the road stone is a good idea too, the thickness of road stone will vary with ground conditions
where are your parents located
p/s most of the pikies drive round with the marshalls register and the interlay stickers on their trucks
ask to go and see work they have done and speak to the customer is always best

thanks for the depths
They live in the Kippax (LS25)
Been quoted £3000 to £6000, for a complete dig up and relay for tarmac with white chippings scatered over
and a company has quoted £7000 for stamped concrete but dropped that to £5000 for the job as its becoming the start of a quite period
We I had done about 8 years ago one chap want to use a garden roller

I used a guy called Mel from Normanton when I had my drive tarmaced three years ago. Pukka firm but I can't remember their business name. Didn't need any hardcore as that was already down but had base and top coat put down and it took over two days to lay. Think tarmac itself came from Lafarge. Cost me £2500 for 25 mtrs and so far its survived well - had skip lorries and tippers on it and it hasn't broken up. Number I had for Mel is 07961446130. I don't want to belong to any club that would have me as a member...........

Please don't forget you will almost certainly require planning permission now under new rules as of 1st October!
This is if the paved area is over 5m² and doesn't drain onto you own garden!
