Was your engine running when you were filling up ? I thought the FBH would only run when the engine was running as per a previous post?

No...I had been parked up for a few hours in the M&S car park about 200yrds away ...drove around to the Tesco fuel station next door and they noticed it as I pulled up to the pump...I got out and opened the flap when the chap came out. It will smoke for a very short while after the engine has been turned off.

Defender driver there also ran up to TFC and told him he had a blowing manifold Laughing

does it matter what fuel the D3 is on for the FBH to work.
during time on this forum I come to understand that diesel has different and more dangerous properties to ignite. or have I mis-understood Embarassed Embarassed

I've scared the bejeesus out a few people aswell.Best one was when the local tyre fitter had her up on a jack and I must have accidentally pressed the remote button on my bunch of keys.Plenty of smoke and some lads running for extinguishers.Could have been messy that one Laughing

ISTR that petrol engines reach optimum temperature much quicker than diesels ...something to do with combustion temps no doubt Confused Far too technical for me TBH Very Happy

Deisel engines are much more efficient DG. It converts more energy into movement rather than heat, than the petrol engine does.

Thus the requirement for auxilliary heating, or we would all get cold tootsies and things would be tewwible.............. Big Cry

[quote="Stirling"] - or only when the main engine is running ?

You have more than ONE engine? Shocked Which one is the 'main' engine then?

Success - 5 degrees this morning - started car and went round to wheel arch and theres a smell of exhaust and hot air from the FBH exhaust.

The operation of the FBH is quite subtle and not very obvious - but its probably been working ok.

I can confirm that the engine must be running and that the operation of the FBH is independent of what the onboard temperature guage says on the dash.

Thanks

I should also say that the FBH continues to run when the engine is switched off and the car locked. Not sure how long it runs on for - or why it runs on.
