D3 O8MY....removable towbar and electrics
I know there is a lot of info on here about towbar and electrics but I'm not sure if there are differences with manufactured years.
Just ready to collect an 08MY XS and stealers basically saying that I have to get them to fit electrics and to update computer etc(they would wouldn't they!) so bear with me if ask a few questions since I intend to do it myself and get to know the D3
Electrics seem straight forward to fit with loom in place (biyt like the D1)
Once fit and with a caravan hitched on
1.....Will the caravan road lights work (not according to 1 stealer!!)
2.....Are the rear PDC's automatically disabled so I don't have to listen to a constant ping
3.....I'm told the computer update thingy wotsit will allow the D3 to recognise when a trailer is on and alter the engine management changing the torque profile for towing (it's a manual).......fact or "we need to sell you the extras and make a margin" bull .
Great forum by the way...wife say's I've been spending too long reading the posts .................

1. Yes they will work
2. this needs to be enabled
3. total bulls t there is no change in engine management profiles - how would it 'know' if you had a twin axle caravan or a 100kg trailer attached?
You could get the dealer to enable as part of the condition of you purchasing - the electrics don't need to be fitted first - or you could get an Autologic - equipped independent to activate......
TFC is dead right, my dealer knew I was swapping electrics from old to new car and during pdi - told the car it had tow electrics - JD "To finish first, one first has to finish ...."

I fitted my towbar and electrics about a month ago. I didn't get the dealer to do anything. When the bike rack is fitted and the electrics plugged in the rear PDC doeasn't make any sound to warn me that it's thereHONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE

then the PDC probably isn't reflecting off the bike rack? does it sound if there is an obstacle behind the vehicle with the lightboard connected?

To test the electrics I also plugged in my normal trailer lightboard and waved it around in front of the PDC and still no noise from the dash. Does the engine have to be running or just in reverse?HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE

Thanks for the advice, especially about having them enabled during the PDI........it can be added to 'check wiring on foglamps' and 'check for any water in footwell or leaks' list.
Now to hit fleabay for towbar and elecs before contacting the Large One.
Mind out for copy electrics. Seem to be some "braided" ones on there. Not sure I would want aftermarket ones, when you hear of the faults that can be generated from the electrickery side of things "To finish first, one first has to finish ...."

Thanks 90HP.....was definitely going to get OME LR electrics........maybe cost more but no hassle factor in trying to 'tweak' anything
