Rear view mirrors
My rear view mirror has fallen off for the fourth time in 18 months. Its has all the electronic for the windscreen sensors and light dipping so is quite heavy and can only be resecured by windscreen adhesive ususlly done via the dealers at RAC windscreens.
Does anyone have any experience of this, a friend who had a renault eventually had to have his windscreen replaced as they said a true bond is only managed during manufacture of the screens.
Its a pain loosing the car again for the day just for this.

Doesn't seem right. I had the windscreen replaced and the rear view mirror has been fine. I didn't see it being fitted, but I doubt very much that the screen came complete with new factory-bonded mirror.
Or is there some sort of mounting plate on the screen to which the mirror attaches, and that's what's failed on yours?

I was lead to beleive there is a mounting plate manufatured into the screen, then the rear view mirror attaches to that. Maybe its worth tking to Autoglas to see what they can do for you.

Its a metal disc that is bonded to the screen. The whole mirror assembly is then twisted on to the disc to lock it in to position. Its the disc that keeps coming away from the screen.

Thats what i thought. Nice one Swan..........a trip to Autoglass may be able to bond it back to be honest, I would'nt know what adhesive you can use in case it naffs the Laminate, and you should'nt loose it for a day, just a couple of hours I guess
