fox hunting has nothing to do with controlling foxes.
Now if it was cat hunting .......

Didn't want to start a debate on such an emotive subject but it makes my blood boil which is very unusual for me. The bullet the snare or gas are indiscriminate killers, hounds aren't.
A pregnant Vixen has no scent for instance.

The introduction of the ban was a very bad thing for the fox population.
Anyone with knowledge of hunting with hounds knows that the fittest foxes rarely get caught by hounds. It's the old, lame, sick etc. that are the easiet to catch. This ensures that the controlled population of foxes is a fit & healthy one.
This was very much in evidence during the foot & mouth outbreak, when hunting was suspended. I spotted several foxes that were in a poor condition.
Lamping (shooting at night), snares, illegal traps etc. do not discriminate & can also lead to a slow & agonising death.
Sadly, many naive people thought that because of the ban, the killing of foxes would stop .
On a positive note, the effects of the ban have made some see sense.
As examples, the Veterinary Association for Wildlife Management & James Barrington a former Director of the League Against Cruel Sports, now both actively support the view that hunting foxes with hounds is the most humane method of control.

Am I missing something? - It was a hunt follower that was tragically killed. what has it got to do with the Anti's?....unless they were piloting the gyrocopter..

As I recollect the news reports from TV last night it was a hunt supporter that was killed by the gyrocopter which it was suspected as being piloted by two anti-hunt protestors. At least that's what I thought the news people were implying. I don't want to belong to any club that would have me as a member...........

From the article
Quote:Sam Butler, of the Warwickshire Hunt, said a gyrocopter had recently been following hunts in the area
doesn't quite say the gyrocopter operators were anti's but unless you are into hunting, in which case you would be on a horse, why would you be following a hunt unless it was to 'affect' it somehow, whihc is the usual tactic of the anti's.
Could be innocent, but it seems many have decided that it is a case of 2+2=4 Club AT2

This is a bit clearer.
Such a needless waste of a life. If these people really cared about animal welfare/cruelty why don't they put their time, money & efforts into genuine causes such as the exporting of live animals, factory farming etc.

Trevor Morse the gentleman that was killed yesterday was a good friend of mine.
I hunt regulary with the Warwickshire either on a horse, foot or very often in the past with dear Trevor in the Landrover.
He was an exceptionally generous man with enormous knowledge of the countryside. I cant count how many times i've been with him by the edge of a cover, just the right place to see "Charlie" sneak out.
An amazing man who will very sadly missed. If at first you don't succeed.... destroy all evidence that you tried in the first place!!

I'm sorry to hear about your friend Trevor, I'm sure all the facts will come to light as to what has happened. I've had a few run ins with the Anti brigade(rent a mob) at such events as the Waterloo Cup etc, most of the bloody idiots have never been out in the countryside themselves, and would not know the contribution people like Trevor make to the upkeep of the land and habitats wildlife such as the fox need. This sort of incident only strengthens my resolve towards these "do gooders" who do not know their arse from their elbow. My thoughts go out to Trevor's friends and family. Club Exped trailer
