Injector bolt snapped
I’ve just bought a new to me discovery 3 diesel with an issue on injector number 2. My problem is someone else has been in there before me and snapped o so the holding down bolts. Has anyone ever drilled one out or do we think I’ll have to take the head off?
Thanks
Paul

I cannot help you myself but you might find this educational.

Thanks, interesting video but mine is a snapped injector bolt not a glow plug so not quite the same as the bolt has snapped below the top of the hole so I have nothing to grip/weld onto. I’ve tried many different extractors and none have worked. Time to get the drill bits out again and start drilling.

Drill it out slightly smaller than the bolt size and run a tap down it. That should break out whatever is left. Worked on some snapped exhaust manifold studs on a TD5 Defender I had the other day.2004 Disco 3 HSE TDV6

And drill it out using a left handed drill bit. It's quite likely as the hole deepens and relieves the stress on the threads it'll just back itself out.

I just ordered myself a set of left handed drills so hopefully we can get it out. A job for the weekend, the guy who has snapped the bolt has "tried" to fix the issue by putting thread lock onto the injector in the hope it will stick in the head, so I've got to clean that mess out as well. Some people shouldn't be allowed near tools!!

Update
All sorted, drilled out remaining bolt, thread cleaned out and bolt back in. Engine still has misfire at this point so scanned with IID tool and the fault is on cylinder two not injector two so whoever snapped the bolt out wasn’t even on the correct injector. swapped injector 3 and we’re back up and running. Good result as this car purchase was a gamble with a cheap fix so far to replace my last discovery that spun a crank bearing a few weeks back.
