I've been meaning to do this job for a while, since I saw how much sticky carbon had accumulated in the Electric Throttle Body whilst doing the EGR blanking job. The throttle body is this part:

and is located on top of the engine, under the cover (part number 2):

To remove the valve body, undo the bolt from the front near the fan, and also the bolt on top, then release the clip that connects the pipework from the intercooler at the front of the throttle valve. Also release the 2 clips that connect the EGR pipes, and the electrical connectors to the motor and temp sensor fitted to the valve body. (I forgot to take a picture of these bits, but see the final pic on this post for clues!)
The carbon deposits that build up in this assembly are due to the EGR valves, so since I've blanked mine it seemed to make sense to clean the valve body out, and also cut down the pipes that feed EGR gas into the inlet manifolds. Here are the 2 EGR gas inlet ports, 1 already cleaned up and cut down, the other as it came out of the valve body....

These protrude onto the airflow entering the engine, so whilst it's not really going to make any difference cutting them down, at least it cleans up the airflow a little (don't cut them down if the EGR valves are not blanked!)

This picture shows the inlet air temp sensor, which has been cleaned up but was totally blocked and covered with s t!
After some scrubbing in diesel, much of the carbon came off, although there is some rock hard stuff still there which I may try to remove in the future. At least with the EGRs isolated it can't get any worse, and I got a the loose bits out so they can't fly into the engine now. Note the cut off EGR gas ports on either side:

A bit more work today has removed most of the carbon deposits from the throttle body. A soak in diesel and scrub with a small wire brush did the trick......

Removal of the TDV6 Throttle body
G'day mate,
You post on this is great...just wanting some clarification, once you unhook the EGR connections and other bolts etc..do you simple pull the Throttle Body off by pulling it towards the front of the vehical? Are ther any special tricks with this? I have tried to do this but it feels very tight and obviously I don't want to destroy it....

Reviving an old thread, I know, but I note nobody ever answered Deano's question above.
How do you remove the throttle body once the connectors are off and the bolts are out? I'm also afraid of pulling too hard on something and breaking it.

if you have taken the bolt out it should pull out you can lift it up at the front and slide it slightly more into one side and pull it is just 2 rubber rings that hold it in tightly so needs a little bit of a tug to get it out tinted windows

So, from what I can tell, it appears to be held in place with one bolt through the top of the throttle body and another bolt through the front (just about accessible between viscous fan blades). Is that it?
My EGRs were blanked years ago and I have no EGR pipework getting in the way.
Do you pull the throttle body towards the front of the car? I can see it's held in by two seals but it doesn't seem to want to budge.

Depends.
If you're removing the throttle body to clean the inside, probably not.
I'm removing the throttle body to clean-up some oil blow by on the outside of it and check the underside of it for cracks/holes, as I have some oil residue in this area of the engine.
Cleaning it up will help me identify where the oil is coming from. I suspect it's the throttle body seal so will be replacing that at the same time.

I have a 2007 Jaguar S-Type TDV6.
I've been searching for days for a post like this on all the Jaguar forums and have come up blank. Then I thought, "I know who else uses this engine..." and low and behold, within two minutes, I found my answer, thank you!
My coolant outlet assembly (located right under the throttle body) split on the top a couple of days ago, spurting coolant out everywhere. I got as far as removing all the two bolts, connectors and pipes from the throttle body, but couldn't work out how to remove it completely. It seemed stuck pretty tight and I didn't want to damage it..
Now I know it's simply a case of a wiggle and a pull and coax it out.
I'll be coming back here a lot more now for anything engine related, thank you.

Hopefully this finds its way to you....I haven't actually managed to get my throttle body off (haven't really tried I guess) but I am interested how you got on as I too have the oil residue (although it does seem very thin) under, around and on top of the throttle body....what did you find?
