Landie Specs for Fluids

After a few weeks of driving my Disco3, I have noticed that both the brake , and oil are a bit low, I decided to check with the handbook for correct fluid, but when I went to purchase the oil/brake fluid, had not hope, all the oil started at 20/40. Can anyone tell me what type is used in Australia on the V6 turbo.

There are a couple, one that I bought and one that I found later. Both are Castrol and the one that I bought was

Castrol Formula R Synthetic
5W-30 which is ACEA A3, B3 and B4. I think the manual requires B3 from memory.

The other one that the first shop didnt have was Castrol Magnetite I think. The cheaper place that I found for the first one was Autoparts and cost ~ $ 42.00 for 5 Litres. So far have used 1 litre for the first 1500 km and about 500 mls (have not refilled it yet as only 1/2way down the stick for the next 1000 km.

Castrol recently changed the name of the Synthetic R to Edge.

You are looking for Castrol Edge Sport 5W-30. You can pick this up at K-Mart, Big W or any Autoparts shop.

Not sure about brake Fluid.

LR Book says 5w/30, Shops sell 5w/40, my service invoice shows Magnatec 5w/40 was put in, service guy says Castrol TXT and LR said either 5w/30 or 40 will do. But does it matter if you mix /30 & /40 together? Can some one comfirm as i need to buy some for top up if required. It was much easier when there was only 1 oil!!!!!

Disco.

It should not matter for a few reasons. Firstly the amount being added compared to the total in the sump is minimal, secondly the additives will be similar.

What is not a good idea is to add either semi-synthetic for the top up or a Synthetic that that does not have the right rateing as per the manual. Why not just buy the Sythethic R which is eactly the spec in the manual ?

Disco,

I was able to get all the fluids as per LR spec at SuperCheap Auto Balcatta including the Castrol 5W/30 oil. Most are Castrol with the brake fluid being Shell. Oil was expensive at $64 for 5L
