Duing the hot weekend we've just had and also being rather hung over after my girlfriends sisters 18th b'day, i thought i'd use the aircon to try and make us all feel a little bit better whilst travelling at 55 on the M6, and it didn't work, no cold air from the front or rear air con.
So i booked it in at the local air con specialist who performed a gas check and then a leak test as no gas was present. Have found out that the front to rear pipes have corroded through and that is where it is leaking.
Has anyone had any experience with changing these pipes etc The ones that are corroded run along side the air suspension tube by the N/S sill.
Any help would be appreciated

I take it you weren't driving I believe that every human has a finite number of heart-beats. I don't intend to waste any of mine running around doing exercises.

mines going into MJ Fews next week for exactly the same problem.
The high pressuyre pipe from the front to rear has a huge hole from corrosion and has emptied all the gas. IOt looks like the pipe connect just behind the wheelarch and the connects at the rear just before the wheelarch. The corrosion happened just under a pipe holder that connects it to the body.
Will let you know how this goes.

Probably best to get the parts from Nick at Yeovil and then get an independent aircon tech to fit and re-gas the system. 2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto

yes would have to have rear aircon.
Teh pipes run front to rear and have two connectors at each end. they can be removed without too much fuss by the looks of it, as they then connecty to the pipes at the rear and go through the rear wheel arch into the aircon equipment there. I got an independant report from an aircon specialist who also recomended replacing thr dryer as it will be full of moisture. Over time this will cause the internals of the aircon system to rust from the inside out and isn't good, so this should be replaced at the same time.
To be fair to MJ Fews they said to replce the dryer immediately after I told them the problem and showed them the report.
Mines a 2006 and is just still within warrantly.
If doing the job myself I would replce the pipe and check the other pipe also (high/low pressure pipes) and if I was keeping the car I would also replace the dryer. Worth a call ti TLO I would think, or certainly e-bay. If you source a secoind hand dryer then you need to make sure that when the dryer has been removed, it has been immediately sealed otherwise it will be just as damp inside and will give you huge problems also.
Hope this helps,
James

Hi guys. My aircon too has failed on my 55 plate disco which I bought new. I am guessing it will be the same problem as described here. Now out of warranty I need the best independent specialist close to Bristol (I live half way between Cardiff and Bristol).
I dont want to pay Main Dealer prices - do you guys have any recommendations please?
Is there some troulbleshooting gude I can use to make sure its not something else?
thanks for your help a6rrw

Ideally you need to find an independent that will do a gas pressure test and a leak test, mine came in at just under £30, that way they will be able to pin point the problem.

Hi a6rrw,
I used these guys, just north of Bristol, but mobile.
http://www.gocool.co.uk
He charges £25 to pin point the exact problem, and then if there are no problems with the system he will re-charge. If there is a gaping hole then he will find the hole and either advise of a fix and / or quote for repair and re-gas. Very knowledgable and very good service.
Hope this helps,
James
