What a plank I am
Too late, my top RH strutt has broken, I should have read this info ages ago!
Have spoken to Taunton LR - as my car is just out of warranty, they have said that as a goodwill gesture they will pay 50% of the cost to get it repaired. How does this sound to you guys? Should I push to get it done for free?
Any help would be gratefully recieved, Taunton have not as yet given me a price for the work, how much should it cost id I do have to pay 50% out of my own pocket?

Dealer should have checked and tightened these as part of the 'enhancement' package ages ago. I am sure someone will provide the exact TSB. It should have been checked when service the was done about that time.
As it is a known issue and is not something that has happened I would argue for warranty claim....or claim against dealer for checking earlier. See if a note was made in your service invoices. Getting there is half the fun

agree with caverD3
I wouldn't pay a penny!!
It's a known fault.
The issue lies between your Dealer and Land Rover .. not you! .

What caver said.
Well remembered
Dealer should have thread locked the nuts to avoid the issue if they had actually tightened them up.

I am a new owner of a 2006 HSE and my first time to login to this forum I find this topic about the rear lift-gate lose strut bolt. I just checked mine and low and behold, very lose! Required about 8 turns, I think it was about to fall out or be stripped badly just before falling out. Thanks forum!!!

My top right tailgate hydraulic arm fell off this week with no warning, and when I tried to relocate the arm mount I heard the "holding" nut drop inside the bodywork. As I've had the car only 2 months (05Reg) I took it back to the garage, but was told this is not covered by the"guarantee" as it relates to body work failure. Despite removing the brake light cluster I cannot get to the "dropped" nut so now I need to cut open the body work to be able to retrieve and relocate the nut using specialist equipment in the correct position, then have the body work rewelded and re painted.
I cannot believe a manufacturer like LandRover have such a major design fault as surely the "holding" nut should have been welded. or securely located, to the internal body work at the point of manufacture.
How many other issues are there like this on a Disco3?

Try a different dealer - this is a well-known fault, and dealers should have fixed it during a vehicle service.
Even if your D3 is out of warranty there should be some goodwill due to it being a known problem.

not sure what action to take with the dealer but from memory there are a couple of holes covered with what looks like cardboard or similar and will be painted the same colour as your D3. maybe try removing one of them to see if you can access the lost nut. would a rivnut do the job?

Well spotted Gareth!!! He noticed mine were nearly "out" and we tightened them up. Another thing for the stealer Thursady. I'd checked them when I first learned of the issue but had completely forgotten about them. Moral of the story being check them regularly, afterall it's a LR U drive so she likes to suprise you.
