I have booked mine in for the above fault , BUT Ripon Landy will not admit it's a Landrover problem
They are quoting £15 per gas strut and half an hour labour.
Should I argue the problem or go ahead and pay that amount.

See Chris and ask him to look up TSB LA501-018 slowly re-building my gallery after the wipe out !!!!

Can't beleive it.
I've been reading the forum for a year or 2 now but have never read this ongoing thread!
The top right hand mounting for the gas strut has just fallen off into the inside of the bodywork. Looks like its a well known problem here. It also looks like a big repair.
As my car is out or warranty now, can I expect Land Rover to repair this FOC as there is a TSB out on it? Do TSB's last beyond warranty?
Anyone had to pay for a repair, how much are we looking at?
Typical, we've just had a baby so really need to be in the boot all the time for the pram! Its all my fault, I'm told!

It was supposed to have been checked and loctite applied as part of the enhancement program that all 05 D3 were supposed to have been subjected to. You should at least ask your dealer to prove that they did this to your car.
If they did not, then I think they should help you out, especially if you have been a good customer in the past. Silver TDV6 HSE

My dealer is usually very good. The car was bought from them and they are the only ones that have ever touched it. But I couldn't see any evidence of locite on the threads. I would assume that there would be some kind of residue on them. Wouldn't you? Was it something they were required to have done when it had been in for one of its services as part of the enhancements?

As you may have seen from my post previously my RH strut mounting fell off too. So I read this thread and dreaded what was involved and the cost.
But I contacted my local dealer who gave a much cheaper although fiddley repair. They said the best way to do this is to weld an M8 nut onto a wire coathanger. Remove the rear RH tail light. Drill a hole big enough to pass the M8 nut through. Manipulate the nut to the hole in the internal rear panel by using the wire coathanger. Line it up and then start trying to get the thread of the bolt to catch the thread of the nut! They told me they have done it in 15 minutes but have also taken over 3 hours. Depends on how lucky you are or how much of a steady hand you have got.
I tried the above but as I have a 5 seater I could access the internal part of the body by taking off the inside trim on the boot post. I assume that on a 7 seater this may house a speaker or airbag - hence the other option of drilling above the light housing. I drilled my hole from inside as described. I then was nearer to the hole where I was aiming for and so could line up the nut and bolt a lot easier. I was lucky and got the nut onto the bolt first time. Bingo!
Time taken - probably an hour to do they drilling and investigating. Half an hour to find a local welder to weld the nut onto the coathanger. Not their usual business I might add - and no charge! 2 mins to line it all up and thread it through. Tighten up and then press the gas strut onto the nut and tighten up. I left the wire coat hanger in place as this will stop the nut undoing itself.
All I need now are some of the yellow trim clips to get the inner trim back in place, as in my enthusiasm to fit it I broke all 4 clips by banging it into place before it was all lined up.
Total cost £1.45 for a pack of M8 nuts, although I only used 1. B&Q only do in packs of 10 so if you can find a small hardware store this fix may only cost the price of the nut about 20pence plus a welder if they charge you.

Had a 54plate SE from a dealer in June with 12 months Land Rover Warrenity
Went to close top tailgate last night almighty bang and on investigation the top mount had fled off looks like the nut has come away from the body work inside
Going to contact dealer Monday am
Anybody any idea of my chances of a warrenity job?

I would have thought that LR would honour this repair even out of warranty. Get on to LRCC and simply ask the question. Remember there is no 'i' in disco3.co.uk

Well been to the dealer this morning to book the disco in
Explained the issue and asked them to confirm it would be carried out under warrenity
Phone call back 3 hours later its not covered
Dealer suggests that I contact customer care which I have done and I am now waiting to hear back from them
I will post again when I know more

Good News
Contacted Customer Care soke to a guy called Daniel (had good listening skills) who went away for a day to gather all the info he needed
Got a phone call from him saying that they were going to cover the full cost of the repair
Dealer had already rung me has placed the parts on order and is due to ring back later today to book the car in
Must say its restored my faith in both Land Rover and customer service in general

Wish I had rung customer care too. I didn't like attacking my car with a drill.
Still quite an easy repair and you can't see any holes unless you take off the interior trim.
When they say they have ordered parts, all that can be is a wire coathanger and an M10 nut. Don't know any other way that it can be done without causing some serious damage that would need a bodyshop.
I can't see how the nut can be welded back onto the pillar as there isn't any room to get in. That is unless as I said they make a serious hole that would need a bodyshop to repair it.
My DIY fix has been perfect.....so far.

Dealer had car for 1 1/2 days picked it up last night all fixed
They have welded an new plate with a nut on the inside of the piller sorted the paitn around the area and replaced the strut
Also re thread locked and ensured the left one was torqued to the right setting
Washed the paint work too
Full marks to the dealer Droitwich Garage and Land Rover customer care
