Clutch slip
Its so long since I had a manual hence this schoolboy question. As a refresher mine's a 54 plate manual with 92kmiles on the clock.
Driving home from holiday (great time, I'll bore you with the photos if I ever see you ) my D3 started to have a problem. First off, as I was going up the box on a moderate slope there was a Bong and the yellow "brake fault" light come up and the gear selected display went out. A short distance later I had a bit of clutch slip - at first I thought I wasn't clearing my foot from the peddle, but, no my left foot was firmly on its rest and not the peddle.
I tried a few things, and gradually established a pattern - all OK up to about 1800rpm, then a little slip with gentle acceleration, revs jumping by a good few hundred, and self corrected quite quickly. At higher acceleration the effect was bigger and less self correcting. I had to stop for fuel at a nice quite garage so re-sequenced the gear selector, which worked for a mile or so until the next hill. There were no obvious "hot clutch" type smells.
Now for the questions.
Does the D3 have a cable or hydraulic clutch?
Is there any form of automatic adjuster that might not have done its thing?
Who long does it take to change a clutch, and roughly how much are the parts?
It is obvious that my D3 has a fully functioning MIWD Rob Smith

Some days.......
About time I did an update on what's going on, or not.....
First, soon after the initial problems it changed from "annoying" to "fatal" slip.
Mr.RAC was helpful, arriving at the allotted hour, and very pleasant. Mr.Onwards-Transporter was less than punctual or honest about his abilities of keeping to time. Eventually I got to the garage, many hours after they had gone home for the night (Friday).
Now the fun really started. Late on Monday on the ramp, and the strip down started.
Clutch obviously well shot - as expected.
Flywheel shot - unexpected.
Phoned Nick to get a price and availability. I was a bit surprised when Nick quoted part number and price as soon as I finished. He then explained that this was quite a common problem, but not as bad as on the TD5 engine (or it turns out the Merc Sprinters!).
Local man had ordered the part, due for delivery on Wednesday - delivery man messed about and "urgent, AM" became late PM, so garage couldn't start to put things back together until very late yesterday.
This morning, things are going back together, but other customers keep interrupting the flow.
Current ETA is mid afternoon.
Bill - probably £Ouch!, or even £OMG!!!
I'll get some pictures of the failed bits and post them on my galleryRob Smith
