Yesterday evening we finally took delivery of our 'new' 2006 D3. I also ordered the radio switch panel (XPD-500-500-WVH) for the steering wheel a few days ago and took that home at the same time....the cost here in Spain from a LR dealer was 61 EUR including VAT.
Within 20 minutes of arriving home I pulled the steering wheel apart as per the above guide and fitted the control buttons. Admittedly my 'removal' tool didn't look quite as polished as Andy's (in fact I left the rest of the mangled coathanger in place ).
The use of the tool is a little bit fiddly, but after a few attempts, the airbag module simply pops out. Once fitted, they work perfectly, light up when the lights are on and are also 'dimmable' with the rest of the instrument cluster
Just to confirm...I have a euro-spec SE which means the base-spec radio CD-400 and optional factory fitted cruise control....it was an extremely simple job and the results were worth it.....(now...why the hell doesn't a car that costs 56,000 EUR when new come with these control buttons as standard??? ).
Finally....DISCONNECT the battery first.....I didn't and disturbed the neighbours by accidentally hitting the horn button every 10 seconds

Good Point made here
My last job in Tyneside at an automotive components makers, we handled air bag modules
I didnt initially realise the concern until I saw the training video - I wondered why they treated live modules like unexploded bombs - then saw one triggered.....
There is a procedure for disarming the modules - there are lots on a disco
When you realise the power is enough to open the apertures in the panels that are laser cut from the other side (to make the weak points for the deployment opening)...you realise the stored power ready to go
Be careful ....have Disco3 HSE TD6 Auto...
....also S Type 2.7 Auto....

Hey just finished fitting the module - fantastic!! . Yes very nervous with the airbag in my hands believing it would go off anytime but it didnt!!
Got my module off ebay so a very cost efficient upgrade in total.
Now on to the cruise control - anyone got a module for sale!

Fitted mine yesterday - took a lot longer than I thought to get RHS airbag release undone but once I peered through gap that developed I could see what I had blindly been trying to do and LHS was much quicker. A great result so many thanks!! Now to fit the iPOD!!! 2006 SE TDV6, remapped 185Kw, 545NM; Java / black leather; LR roof DVD; LR Expedition rack / LR ladder; LR side steps; LR light guards; OL drawer system; Elec trailer brake controller; 3 extra 12V hella sockets; LR raised air intake; ARB bar; Lightforce spotties; OL rear wheel carrier; Long Ranger 115 litre sub-tank; GME 3440 UHF; TPMS; Traxide/Optima yellow / National Luna dual battery monitor; 6 x 18inch rims with General Grabber AT2's; Mitchell Bros tow hitch; OBIES rear window protector.

Hello! This is my firts post on Your fantastic forum.
With Your help I also managed to install the radio buttons. They worked immidetaly and also the lights work with the normal cockpit lights! But there is one problem left:
my steering wheel buttons move up and down the radio frequenzy and not the presets.
I've read about this problem here but cant find any information how to change this?
I have an 2007 Disco SE with automatic but without cruise control - is it possible to install also the buttons for the cruise controle (or telefon?)?
Thank You and sorry for my bad english!

Hi Mammut...
Welcome to the site....I'm glad your got the buttons installed.
to answer your question, no.....you cannot cycle through the preset channels with the buttons on the steering wheel....you can only scan the frequency up and down.
As for the cruise control, many people have asked this question. You can easily install the button panel (the cabling is provided), so they should light up nicely, but it would seem that you cannot activate the cruise control function.
Unfortunately, even the dealer cannot enable cruise control because when the car is plugged into their system, LR will not allow the option to enable it based upon your chassis number of your D3. (What I mean is that if your D3 did not come with cruise control as a factory-fitted option and is registered as such with LR, then it seems there is no way for the dealer to enable it).
I hope this helps! (even though I know it doesn't )
