Amber LED Beacons - Health n Safety Requirement
A few weeks ago the Health n Safety Executives were attneding our factory on a follow up visit to see if recommendations were implemented inside production, however, they witnessed a NEAR MISS between a private car and a laiden HGV.
We all have to use beacons for this UPPER car park in the Quarry, and both were using them, except the car was using one of the suction type Beacon. Now the HSE are not happy yet again, and insist on proper installation and regulatory type beacons/LED's for this car park only.
I normally use this, and they agreed it was good, but only visable from the front, so I need to rethink.
I have now taken it apart and am thinking of instally the LED's separatly on the Expo, has anybody fitted them there before, and is there any rules on this

Lighting regs state they shouldn't be used on road unless you can demonstrate a valid requirement ...but I dont think it matters in the scale of world issues 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

I have these on the roof of my van for escorting wide agricultural loads ive never had a problem with them being high up. You say that you have taken your unit apart are the led units weatherproof????? ive used cheap led units on the van and they only lasted a few months. Thats all i'd be worried about to be honest

I hope they put amber flashers on sheep, apparently they are now a severe risk to children. They are now saying under 5's should not touch anything at a petting zoo

They seem ok, I weather proofed them now with clear silicone in any orifice the water can try, just got to make a small enough bracket x 4 for the fitment.
Cheers DG for the info, they obviously are clear lenses, and small enough to be tucked away, but was worried about the legal implications when they are visible.
I will post a pic tomorrow when I have fabricated brackets n found locations
DiscoDunc has amber LED flashers fitted to his rack. IIRC he runs the power cable back along the rack and down into the rear of the car.The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

8) am hoping to run my cables through with the CB ariel cable for the rear LED's, and the fronts down behind the windscreen trim and through the hidden grommet in the bulkhead

+1 for this. As a general rule of thumb, the local motorway unit doesn't care about flashing ambers being fitted, so long as they don't exceed (IIRC) 4 flashes per minute - something to do with the potential to induce a fit in an epileptic if they drive past you.
The police round my neck of the woods are only concerned if someone's using blues or flashing rear reds - both of which can only be used on authorised vehicles.
My only concern about the beacon you've got right now is how much 360 visibility it provides?
A better option for you might be a roof fitted magnetic mount LED unit. Our contractors use them on the network and for a small beacon, you can see them fantastically. I'll try and get a picture ofthe type I'm on about for you later on at work.
Plus, your H&S bods need to be aware that you can have all the lights flashing you want, and the car lit up like a demented Christmas tree, if someone's not paying attention, they still won't see it until they've rearranged their front end.

Cheers for the info guys, and the links Andrew. Been out this afternoon, and ran cables through the rear light with the CB ariel, all the LED power cables are running through the rails to which the EXPO fits onto, albeit under the fixing brackets for the Expo (what a git to do).
Anyway, ALL the cables are now in the N/S/R cubby box, next to the tow bar electrics waiting for me to decide where to take them further
Small/discreet/ and very bright
Watch this space for the power up next weekend

ive got the lights AndrewS links to (4 at rear and 2 on front) - Excellant they are too. Some of the cheaper LED light look a bit twinkly and dont show up well in sunlight. The EVS ones give very clear light in all conditions and you can synronise them all together.
Just dont get Amber/White - They are illegal on public roads. Amber/Clear are OK thoughDuncan

Mine are Amber clear as you can see, took a bit of head scratching to sync them to flash all 4 in opposites, like N/S/F and O/S/R together, then O/S/F and N/S/R.
None had labels, and had to extend the wiring, so head scratching time for a while. Not sure where to put the control box yet, will think about it for a while

I did remember to make sure the cables run under the Expo, All have detachable blocks just behind each LED, meaning if/when I need to remove the rack, they can come undone easily.
