AA Prestige Warranty was offered to me as as my vehicle is 3 years old and under 60k.

Came to £630.98 with the Roadside Assistance Package added on for 24 months cover, payable monthly.

Give this girl a ring at the AA if interested, she was really helpful to me:

Sam 01924 207 107 extension 2260.

The added Roadside Assistance seemed to be a good deal as a package.

The key change to this warranty was coverage for wear and tear if vehicle under 5 years and 60k which seems to have been changed recently.

I beat warranty direct down to £490 for 13 months, but then you would need breakdown cover as well.
Warranty Wise was £574
Car2 Cover £466
Warranty Direct £565 luxury care

At some point I had to make a choice so I did!

Not saying I chose the best, or got the best deal just passing on what I can if that helps anyone.

Is that a 24 months warranty package or just 24 for the Road Assist element?

Cheers John

Hi ELD70.

Interesting note about wear and tear and one that is quite hard to believe.
I have just been looking at AA's website and have been looking for the 'prestige' warranty, and i can't find it.
The all singing all dancing one is referred to as the Gold package, and that one specifically notes:

Point 3...

"What is not covered
1. Any customer excess as detailed in the schedule.
2. Components other than those specifically listed as covered overleaf.
3. General servicing and maintenance, the adjustment or cleaning of components, wear and
tear or faults caused by lack of maintenance, neglect or improper use of the vehicle.

4. Any fault that existed prior to the commencement of this insurance or that could be covered
under any other warranty or insurance policy.
5. Consequential damage or loss of any nature.
6. Your vehicle if it is used for hire or reward (e.g. taxi or driving tuition), it has been modified
(unless we have agreed this before the commencement date), if it is over 3500kg GVM,
if it is used in any sort of race or rally or other competition, or if it has been the subject
of a previous insurance total loss.
7. Any repairs not authorised by us prior to the repair work being carried out.
8. Costs in excess of the equivalent UK specification vehicle, if your vehicle has been imported."[/u][/b]

AA Prestige Mechanical Breakdown Insurance.

"No claim will be rejected on the grounds of Wear and Tear where the insured vehicle has covered less than 60k and is under 5 years old at the time of the claim"

Hi Eld.

That sounds really good, i just rang them up to get the T&C's to take back to our insurance providers, and from what they have said on the phone and from what you have stated, the Wear and tear items are quite specific and are comparable to other warranty providers on the market place. The prestige warranty is: 5 star warranty on their website.

They require additional premiums for: Turbo charger, air conditioning, cat converters, etc:
http://aawarranty.co.uk/sourcefiles/car5starmbikeyfacts.pdf

They will chuck in 2 years breakdown on price of £630 or it's £520 odd for just the warranty.

On this policy, the labour rate for work carried out on vehicles under claim is: £48.40 in london per hour.
£39.60 per hour outside london. If you wanted to take the car to a LR dealer, NO CHANCE at these rates.
Claims department would prefer you to take your car to one of their approved repairers or any VAT registered garage.

Our policy providers pay £60ph basic, and will negotiate with LR dealers or any dealer/trade repairer to get the job to fit within the required funds. However if you do insist on a LR dealer on all 3rd party warranty claims, if they can't negotiate with the dealer to fit within their hourly rates, you will be aksed to pay the difference in the cost to keep the car at that garage.

Its not belt and braces, just gives me some cover against the full cost of a major repair as I stated. I can pay the extra labour rate to use a main dealer if required.
I am not saying this is the best warranty or cheapest, just passing on what I can. I hope your warranty can improve on the AA and be the number one choice for all the other D3 guys Thumbs Up

Thanks ELD..
I hope it can too.

It's the cheapest that i have found on the market so far! Hence why i have been analysing it's in's and our's trying to see if any short cuts have been taken, especially on that wear and tear front, they were a bit vague on that, but it's a big grey area anyway, as in the other Post someone posted about 'what is classified as wear and tear', its all in the individual claim, the mechanic that puts the claim in, and the cost of the repair in the end to whether or not the claim will be blocked or paid out on.

Hope you get on well with the warranty and don't have call to use it.. Labour rates, provided you know you may be asked to pay the difference, and in reality most stuff generally can be handled by any decent mechanic they may reccomend, but if it's something you would prefer LR to look at, you then that's your call.

We are looking to bundle our items, and i think we will also be throwing in the 2 year road side assistance on our 2 year warranty deal, so will update that thread accordingly. Other items are worth looking at: insurance excess cover, tyre cover, alloy, scratch/dent cover, as they aren't in the warranty packs at all..

Cheers Thumbs Up

RE wear n tear, the AA have a range of different policies.
IMO it all depends on the insurance underwriters.
So what may be covered in one type of policy may not be covered in another.
For example I've got an AA Executive policy.
It covers high mileage vehicles.
Mine is at 135k and it's 2 year cover at £18 per month.
Wheel bearings to me seem like an item that would come under 'wear n tear',
however my policy covered me for a replacement.

All aftermarket warranties are a bit of a lottery as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah understand what you mean about the lottery, it has been a maze looking into all the types of cover and varying levels of items covered etc.

Most policies cover wheel bearings, front and rear, our premier and platinum both cover this.
I recently had my S Class in for other repair work, and they replaced the front wheel bearings under Merc warranty, so i think this is regarded mostly as warranty work across the board.

Nice D3 btw! Very Happy Thumbs Up

In LR world it's not.
Even the 'official' LR extended warranty doesn't cover wheel bearings.

Thumbs Up on the D3 comment Kam.
