Air Suspension Problem

Hi all

It's actually my old man's car but his typing skills are not the best!

He uses his D3 daily and uses the air suspension every trip as it makes it easier for him to get in and out with two replacement knees. We went to Cosford Air Show yesterday without any problems until we got home. Once parked he tried to lower the suspension as usual but nothing happened. We tried a couple of times and turned the car on and off etc and still got nothing. There were no warning lights on the dash and no message on the screen or chimes. Everything else seems to work fine (terrain response, high/low range, handbrake etc.).The warning light for the air suspension comes on amber and goes again on starting the car but doesnt stay illuminated.

I know there are lots of air suspension related problems but my searches last night didnt pull up this specific one.

Any help/advice would be great.

Cheers

Tom

p.s. apologies if this is in the wrong place or been covered before.

Are all the doors closed, and are the interior lights off?

What happens if you try to raise the car to off-road (from normal) height? Does the suspension switch do anything at all?

What is indicated on the LEDs by the suspension switch, is the indicated height solidly illuminated?

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, all doors closed. It won't move up or down. The lights around the switch are normal....just lit up as usual no flashing or change of colour etc.

I think that the quickest way to get to the bottom of this one is to have the EAS controller scanned for live data by a competent local diagnostic technician. This would immediately pinpoint whether the issue is with the switch interface or not, and they would be able to force the same commands as the switch over the diagnostics, to prove that the EAS in-general was not at-fault. Most of the general professional diagnostic tools can do this, so no need to use a dealer if you don't want to.

Well yesterday it was taken to Fields, the trusted garage that services it (a mitsubishi dealership but we have known them for years and cant fault them). They spent a few hours looking at it and plugged it in to the diagnostics. They couldnt get any response from the suspension and no faults were found on the computer. They said the next step would be to take it to APB (another local place) who are LR specialists. I had already spoken to them and they said it may re-set itself when plugged in as no errors were shown etc.

The old chap drove home with a view to booking it in. As he drove off and got up to speed he got the warning message you get when the suspension is locked in the low position and yopur about to exceed the speed limit even though it wasnt lowered at the time. He pulled over, turned the car off and re-started and the message was gone and not only that the suspension was in full working order again!

It seem that the diagnostics had in some way reset everything after all!

After numerous trips, everything is still working so hopefully the issue has gone. A strange series of events!

Thanks for the help

Tom

When odd things like this happen, it's sometimes worth doing a hard reset. Thumbs Up
