But why would you normally leave the key in the ignition if you're charging the battery overnight? 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue

I topped the Fl2 battery up with my Ctek 7000 did it in a couple of hours. I think CW was referring to removing the battery and keep the key in position 2 not to charge it up like that (but I stand to be corrected) I have used mine on leisure batteries for a few years and its been excellent DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

No the car was asleep. I can't think what has caused it. Used the crocodile clips and made sure they stayed on when the bonnet was closed, left the charger inside the engine bay. It's a mystery.
The CTEK does have a cold setting to use at less than 5 degrees, which I used for the first few hours, then when I checked it I changed it to the car setting for some reason. Could this be it? Scraping the barrel for a reason. Done a 20 mile journey this morning and the battery has charged up fine.
Maybe the unit is faulty? Badda bing.......How you doin'?

PaulP wrote:I've also been looking at buying a CTek recently, but the XS25000 is a bit more than I wanted to spend....
Is there any reason to justify getting it over, say the XS 7000 ?
Prices:
XS 7000: 140 EUR
XS 25000: 250 EUR
I want to use it for both the D3 and another car, an optima yellow top and a marine battery.
Paul...the XS 25000 would be the one for you if your gonna play with the FFL....D3 draws between 20-24 amps with ignition on.

Sorry Roel.....should have read all the posts before replying to PaulP's Formerly Blakey

correct. I was thinking more along the lines of diagnostic use (not really removing the batt but stating you can) as I know PaulP has an MSV2.

Hi Goodfella,
I have an x3600 CTEK unit and have been using it for a year now to good effect. I damaged the original battery in the D3 through short journeys, heated seats on, DVD on etc.
Since installing a new battery I've always been very careful to 'top up' the charge using the CTEK overnight. I would be surprised if the unit drained your battery as it is reverse polarity protected ie current cannot flow in to the unit.
I accidentally ran over my unit just before Xmas and thought I had broken it as the fault light came on. Taking it apart I found that the internal heat sink was shorting to the output stages. Having bent everything back into position and put it back together it still works fine ! I think the CTEK stuff is good kit !
If you have a damaged battery though you won't recover it using the charger - you will need to replace the battery and then condition it with the charger to keep it healthy !

The reconditioning feature off the C-tek is good. I my donor 90 was an old battery after just charging overnight it wasn't powerfull enough to start the 2.5l n.a. diesel engine.
I reconditioned the battery and now I can start it (just).
It doesn't do wonders but it really makes a difference. Roel
