Been looking for a late model D3 for a month or two. I have however noticed/read recently about some pretty amazing deals on XC90s - 10K off the SE Lux which makes a new car about 25K - I can''t get a decent 2yr old D3 from a main dealer for that! My heart still says Disco, but my head is wittering endlessly about 3 yr warranty and a newer car with cheaper road tax and fuel. Please help me suppress this pragmatic nonsense - I don't really want to drive a Volvo, do I?

The XC90 is a good car if you don't get the auto and never go offroad. Seats and sound system are very good.

Hmmm, in my experience things only get reduced in price if they are either rubbish or nobody wants them ..................... says it all really.

Don't see how you can compare the two vehicles myself.
One's a "proper" off roader
One's a mildly pimped estate car.
Pays your money and takes your choice. World would be a boring place if we all drove around in the same car.
Does seem like a lot of metal for the money though I grant you that. Welcome "Lola"

Kind of agree with jkp and BCC....for the discounted price that's being offered, I don't think I'd take too much convincing to buy one as a second car if I had 25K to spend and wanted a brand new motor - the XC90 is a very good car
As a main 4x4 though, there is no comparison with the D3/4 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue

strange turn around, when i bought my D3 in 2006 it was the cheaper option compared to an XC90..........so easily no contest.....although the Volvo sales girl......... end of an era ....... maybe a Defender when it appears.......

Due to these new deals, I'm guessing it worth a hell of a lot less now than it would have been 6 months ago 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue

Our 54 XC90SE was valued at £18k when written off in May. It was in excellent condition with almost 70k on the clock, and to be honest I think the engineer had erred on the very generous side as the accident wasn't down to us. I'd have put it closer to £16.5k.
XC90s are very good cars if you can compromise on internal space and offroad ability. If it wasn't for our kids getting larger I would probably have gone for another, but that said I'm now very happy with the Disco. Funny how things go on pricing; we bought new when they were relatively new and in demand - deals could not be had. The salesman even baulked at chucking in a few toy XC90s models for the kids.
Seeing the deals now I'm wondering what Volvo are up to or up against....

Maybe the XC90 is getting harder to shift since the launch of the XC60??
I think for the money it is a stonking deal for a new car, in the current weather it will be as good as a D3 on the snowy roads, obviously it is miles away in terms of true off-road ability but as others say if you don't need that facility then it makes a lot of sense. 2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto
