Wiring in D4 LED clear rear lights.
Although fitting new LED clear rear lights is just a 'plug n play' installation, you need to be aware that your dash indicators will flash at double speed [not the rear indicators].
To solve this, you'll need to wire in a resistor to each rear light.
Wires can be quite hard to trace because they're all black.
So to help, remove the connector block from your new light unit - it does need a bit of a tug.
At the rear you will see numbers at each corner.
The indicator light wires that need to be bridged by a resistor are No3 [positive] and No5 [negative].
Did mine today [including front LED indicators] and now dash lights click at normal speed.
Hope this is of use to someone.

D3 led style lights already have the resistor inbuilt D4 ones fitted to the D3 need the resistor.

There now seem to be two types of LED rear light assemblies available. The photographs I have seen show one has a blingy white border (which I think looks awful) and the other hasn't.
Which one is which, can anyone please help?

white blingy border is D3
black border is D4

Thanks for that, it seems to be the D4 ones I need.
Just need a cheap source and the resistor size now

Have a look on the Bay of E - you're looking for a 6 Ohm high-power (25-50 Watt) resistor. There are loads available there ...Regards,

If you read the group buy thread you would know this already as Slimer made this pretty clear 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

I know that DG, but Im quite sure that not everyone else does.
Some may not have seen it or would've bought their lights elsewhere ..TLO, e-bay etc.
The point of my thread is to help those that want to wire them in.
Whilst very helpful, this is not on Slimers thread.
So the quoted post is giving them the reason why they need resistors.
