just to confirm - this new lead (Nick photographed mine when it came into stock) DOES charge the iphone 3gs from the ACM. My kit was one of the original ones with the cradle, circa 2006.
You do still get the message about accessory mode though.

being really, really stupid! |

Hi guys can I use the socket thingy under the armrest to plug in an I-phone (3g)? Please treat me as an imbecile and I might just grasp your answer! If I can plug it in what do I need to do that in terms of physical leads? Also what would it give me in terms of funtionality?
sorry for being completely irreversibly stupid!!

Jiggy - don't worry, I am in the same position of wondering what i can do to improve my iPhone 3Gs audio conectivity. I have a 2006MY D3 HSE with premium stereo and Nokia cradle in the armrest as part of the phone kit - all factory installed at purchase.
Can anyone help here with kit required to install an iPhone into the centre armrest cradle connected to the stereo and using the steering wheel controls to change tracks? (with no visual info on sat nav or stereo)
Any known costs and photos would also be appreciated! Many thanks chaps.

the cradle has a captive cable that connects to the ACM, so unless you were going to cut and re-join the two then
probably not going to help I'm afraid.
I used one of the cradles in my ipod mod with the last but one version of the ACM and it works fine with ipod touch, iphone and iphone 3gs if that helps:

If it is a 3GS with v3 firmware, using the LR006852 cradle per your other post, then yes it is helpful to know. Thanks !
