over heating

Fit auto box temperature gauge, than you will know.
Also fit an additional oil cooler rad, will solve all problems
Cheers

So there appears to be a lot of options with the auto:

1) Change plastic integrated sump pan/filter to a metal sump pan with separate filter. I guess this would make replacing the filter heaps cheaper in future, and possibly make the sump more durable.

2) Add additional transmission fluid cooler - is this a factory option or aftermarket only? Anyone have part numbers? (IIRC - from LR Expo this year, Davis Performance Landy's offer this).

3) Temperature gauge - nice to know the auto is working, but not sure of the usefulness.

4) Double flush or mega-flush. It seems nobody in Australia is doing the latter. I do note that Ford owners are replacing the oil - driving it around for a few thousand km - and then replacing it again. Rather than doing it all in one go. From what I've read about the mega-flush - it takes a lot longer, as it involves taking oil heading to/from the cooler and dropping old oil out and then feeding new oil back into the box.

5) ATF - use LR oil (ka-ching!), or ZF, or Shell. Or use equivalent and take your chances with warranty.

Forgot to mention... LR have put my problems down to "software" problems in previous services. They updated the software on the gearbox ECU. This resulted in no change to the behavior of my auto.

Does anyone have any pictures and part numbers for the metal sump pan?

Any ideas as to how the filter would be changed and if it isn't necessary to remove the sump to do it? Shocked

I think the idea is that you remove the sump, replace the filter, and renew the sump gasket. (Rather than throwing plastic sump/filter in the bin). Not sure of the part numbers - but I suspect they are Ford parts, as the high performance Falcons now have them.

Auto temperature gauge, like your water temp gauge, you can see what is happening, not some light that comes on, much better

For details of conversion see my post in http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic24467-15.html

Do use the ZF auto fluid. Perhaps buy direct from ZF to save on cost?

No the steel sump is not a Ford product but is made buy "A & B Automotive Remanufacturing" in Dandenong Victoria, Australia.

I would like more details on the additional oil cooler if possible. Who makes it, where and how mounted etc?

Re changing the filter, yes you do have to remove the sump, dont know if the torx screws have to be replaced or they just replaced mine because of variances between plastic and the steel sump.

The filter may be an off the shelf product but mine was described on my invoice as "Filter 6HP26 for steel pan A/M" (I presume this is After Market from A&B Transmissions)

I think Graham Coopers supplies a cooling kit. Give them a ring. Idea

I just rang around a couple of auto repairers. They said that ZF can now provide an alloy sump with separate filter, as some Falcons had cracked their sumps on speed bumps! Shocked (cars lowered too much or racing on streets with speed bumps?)

I just checked and G. Coopers can do the work - but said they use Penrite synthetic ATF... so that is a show-stopper for me. They also have not done any additional ATF coolers on D3s yet.

I'm just waiting for a return call from Davis Performance - to find out what they can do.

I am finding LR specialists do not know a lot about D3s. Ayers managed to get my height calebration wrong ( the wrong measurements taken ) let us know what Davis Performance LR are like.

Speaking of Artarmon.
Gary is behind the desk again at Alto. Thumbs Up
Cremorne Prestige sounds good. I'll bear them in mind for some work but I get a free loaner from Alto so it helps if it is going to take a while.

Pub meet soon guys?
