MP3s in D4 HSE

What are the options for playing MP3 music in a new D4 HSE? I have a large catalog of music and would like it available in the car. I'm currently debating between a D3 HSE and D4 HSE and this is one of the key requirements.

D4 has native Ipod connection! You can plug your Ipod and have tons of fun. Also, there is a USB port so you can plug another pen drive loaded with MP3s. Finally, the CD player accepts MP3 discs as well.

That sounds good. Does it allow you to control playback and music selection through the car's controls if connecting an ipod? Where does the ipod live? Is it tucked away and charged automatically?

Yes, you can control pretty much everything on the Ipod using the car's controls.

The Ipod is placed inside the central arm rest, invisible and comfortable. Thumbs Up

It is charged automatically.

I Pod doesn't neccesarily charge automatically, mine doen't charge Ipod Touch for example. There are a couple of threads about the Ipod cable charging or not.

Charging Options for iPod Touch 2 and iPhone 3G and GS

the reason they don't charge with a lot of the car kits is apple changed the charging pins from the original firewire pins to USB. original iPods used the firewire pins only (v1/2), then it was changed to charge via firewire or USB and now the new iPods only charge through USB. most car kits still use the firewire pins for charging. you can get converters which fit between the cable and the iPod/iPhone to do the conversion. Scosche passPORT is one i have used successfully, Griffin Charge Converter is another. both are available from the apple store.
