just looked on here they have disco 3 engines advertised from £1750, I've never had any dealings with them, I know some on here bought batteries off them recently.
They seem ok and they've been trading for some time. I think they also have something to do with factory clearance as they have bodyshells and other new parts.Faultmate MSV2 EXTREME

They have links to LR as all the G4 cars that were not fit to go through the dealers (the crashed ones) were diposed of by them.Craig

Same thing happened to me in october, split crankshaft.. No apparent reason, all fluids topped and complete service history. 2005 D3 that has only done 90k km's.
Car is still at the dealer waiting for parts, and it's been that way for close to 8 months now..
Last quote was about 10k pounds.
Don't know i I have the guts to keep the car when finished, will never trust the engine again.

Hi Damian
When I bought my D3 the engine had recently been renewed under extended warranty, this was April 2009, and the total invoice was for £5200 + vat. Work was carried out by Stratstones, Newport Pagnell.
If you need any further details let me know.

Seems that LR have introduced the crankshaft from the new 3000cc TDV6 on the replacement 2700cc engines.
They woudn't have done that if it wasn't anything wrong with the old one, would they?

Don't think they have:
2.7 TDV6 stroke 88mm (bore 81mm)
3.0 TDV6 stroke 90mm (bore 84mm)
Can't believe I just looked that up!

Title TDV6 (2700cc) Short Engine Replacements
Last Modified 30-SEP-2009 16:35
Category Engine
Symptom 499000 Basic Engine
Content
Issue:
A concern has been identified when replacing a short engine assembly applicable to TDV6 (2700cc) derivatives of Discovery and Range Rover Sport. The crankshaft fitted to the 2700cc TDV6 engine is now the same as the crankshaft fitted to the new TDV6 3000cc, introduced at 2010MY.
Action:
When a 2700cc TDV6 short engine is required (part number LR010297) it is therefore possible you may now receive a short engine with the new type crankshaft fitted (3000cc version). The difference being that the crankshaft bolt which attaches the crankshaft gear to the nose of the crankshaft is a different size. It is therefore important that the thread size is checked prior to fitment of the bolt. If it is found that the size required is M16 then a new bolt must be ordered, part number LR013377. The old type size was M14, but as the pitch size is the same for both bolts (1.5mm) the M14 bolt will fit the new type crankshaft but it will be very loose.
If it is found that the M16 bolt is required then the crankshaft gear must also be changed (use part number LR005996) as it requires a larger clearance hole for the M16 bolt.
Procedure for replacing a short engine on 2700cc derivatives can be found in Global Technical Reference (GTR) under section 303-01C - Engine - 2.7L Diesel.

Thanks Brede, I stand corrected. Well sort of, I still don't believe it's the same crankshaft but MacLeod might be right!

Yeah, a change of crankshafts does seem strange, but there's no hiding that there's quite a few split crankshafts around. Several RRS have also been affected offcourse.
Have been trying to get an answer from Land Rover, but it seems they don't really want to answer my questions.
