im a short Censored so i'd be fine Very Happy

I can sleep in the FFRR with the seats down!

After looking at the links RLD put me onto im thinking of a tent type setup that isn't much taller than the original tubs. Love the slide out kitchen and table ideas.

They do seem rather cheap with the tubs on them as well, circa £200-350 on the bay!!!

Love the trailer Wiggs.
Looking for a Sankey chassis as we speak.
I have a trailer of sorts at the moment, but it's a utility 6x4 with clamshell that leads a double life.
One question I have for you regards the reason for the extension; purely for better towing performance, or for extra footprint?

I'll jump in here since I had an extension on mine.

Sankeys generally have a small turning circle, but when attached to a lower-axled, long wheel base civilian vehicle, have a tendency to "jack-knife" and can damage the bodywork on either side of the vehicle. Putting an extension on the bar effectively lengthens the turning circle closer to that of the towing vehicle and allows more control.

I did it by removing the tow ring mechanism and welding/bolting two square section stainless tubes that I could then re-attach the tow ring and brake mechanism to.

Sadly I've had to dispose of my Sankeys, but still miss their all terrain features.

I see.

So is there an ideal extension length? Would you suggest mirroring whatever you're towing it with?
90" for example from towball to hub centre if pulled by a SWB Defender?

I had two 3 foot long parallel 6mm thick box profile stainless extensions on mine, with the ends cut back to allow the ram brake mechanism to be bolted back on, inverted in my case to lower the ring height and allow horizontal coupling.

Don't forget that the longer the extension, the more weight on the tow ball and your rear suspension. Too much weight in the back end of the trailer will lift it and lead to "snaking" at speed under braking. That I can recommend not to have happen to you, scared the living daylights out of me when I was driving back home with just batteries in the very back.

Another consideration could be the space you have to store the trailer. If you are restricted for space, you could make up a adjustable tow bar, sliding it in or out as needed. This could also allow you to experiment with the length of bar you need or suits your tow vehicle.

I also had a hydraulic specialist company reroute the master cylinder reservoir pipe because the new position for it was no longer set into the brake mechanism. All I had to do was bleed the brakes and they were perfect.

The extensions I made up were that length and spec because I happened to have some left over from a boat trailer project, but they were just right for the job.

If you build and balance the trailer right it will be fine what ever the length

Trailer Gas

Thank you to Wiggs for his advice.
My planning is coming along slowly but surely.
I can't decide what to do about a gas supply.

Option 1: LPG tank between the chassis with filler for petrol stations. I've got almost everything apart from a tank.
Option 2: 19kg gas bottle between chassis rails so I don't have to move the trailer to refill.
Option 3: 2 x 7kg bottled between the chassis rails with a valve to isolate one bottle at a time. I already have two bottles.
Option 4: Put a bottle in one of the lockers with the heater.

All points of view appreciated.

I went with the gas bottle .. Couldn't justify the cost of the tank sat under the chassis ( plus I didn't want to have to cut the rear stabiliser legs )
