Transfer box removal and seal replacement
I am to embark on the above job myself but could do with any info / technical notes before I start. I understand the box has to be split in order to change the seals. Also the software may need to be reset which would require the attention of a dealer / specialist.
An indi garage did mine, and needed a special LR tool to remove the front output shaft seal. I don't think they needed to reset any software though. Took them a full day.Previously:

Why are you doing this Iain?
I know it's a pain to change the front output shaft seal, but I think I have a small/slow leak on my rear output shaft seal and wondering if it would need to be removed for this too.....
I would love to see your photos and write-up.
I can send you documentation if you send my your e-mail by PM, but it is all in Spanish 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE AutoBuckingham Blue 2007 Golf GT DSG

What a bummer to go through all that just to change a 6 quid seal. Watching English mechanics on sky some time ago and they had to take out a gear box ect of the 4x4 and it took 4 of them. Seems to much hard work to me but good luck anyway.
P.S.
Does anyone know where I can get blanking plates for the two egrs.Don't be blinkered vision, see the world in colour.

The reason for stripping is the front output seal, which after changing the oil some weeks ago has suddenly started leaking, quite a lot in my opinion given the low amount of fluid inside. The vehicle has done 93K and I have the seals already, hoping the flange isn't too worn as this will no doubt cause me a delay as I can't see dealers having them in stock. I have a press at hand and from what I can tell from the special tools are mainly for pushing the seals in and out, so easily improvised.
Friday night / Saturday is my planned time to do it, utilising a pit for best access,
I don't think the flange is too expensive - the place that did mine bought one in anyway, just in case. Wasn't needed in the end though.Previously:

Thanks Paul. Just going through them at the mo. I've already had some strange translations such as:
Do not work above or under a vehicle supported only by a cat .
I'm not one to preach to folk what they get up to in their own time, but I for one won't be harming any animals during the replacement of the seals.
Iain, same happened with my transfer box. If you haven't got the proper press tool to fit the new seal think very carfully before attempting it because, if you don't press it in 100% square not only do you end up with a poor fit, but you can also end up with a cracked transfer box case = new transferbox needed or an expensive repair - I talk from experience.
Mine was done by a dealer, so fortunately they picked up the extra costs and I had a courtesy car.
Oh, and 4-5 weeks later, the pinion seal on my rear diff went - now that is probably just coinsidence, but I'd whilst you under there or any signs of a leak there as you'll need to remove the shaft for that too.
Good luck
