Handheld GPS - Which is best for accuracy?

Am about to have a lively discussion with my neighbours about the position of fences and boundaries - as most cut through woods I'll need to be suitably equipped with some form of GPS. I know accuracy is a factor of the satelites more than the handhelds, but I need to get within a few feet.

Can anyone reccomend a decent handheld? Looking at the Garmin kit as they seem to be the default option but either they are all the same sensitivity or the difference is negligible?

thanks in advance

Cheers

Unless you what to pay lots of money the small handholds are not accurate enough for you purpose.

If its land dispute you have I would suggest contacting an land survey company who should have equipment with DGPS and the required accurancy.

thanks - all amicable at the moment apart from the small issue of a 50 yard track having been made through my woods "in error". at least we're in firewood for a couple of years.

Hi Heapster,
As has been said, you require DGPS as a minimum. They are bloody expensive and so you would need to hire.

In such a "dispute" I would engage a surveyor to do the work.

Is the title to the relevant properties registered at HM Land Registry - almost certainly so.

In which case obtain copies of the titles from the Land Registry as a starting point.

This can be done between 7 am and 12 midnight, Monday to Saturday (excluding bank holidays). here:-

I agree with other comments made here about GPS. If you need a surveyor give me a shout, I've got a very good mate who can help you out and not that far from you.

Thanks for the tips. Will go to the pros if this escalates; I have all the land reg plans etc which clearly state where the borders are but there are no fences as the previous owners didn't bother plus the deer have a habit of clattering them.

When doing some clearing work on "their" side of the border their contractors drove a 50 yard track into my woods and levelled a bunch of trees so I think I'm going to ask them to fence the whole border as compensation - then we should have no future problems.

Cheers

Hi Heapster,
But who decides where the fence should go?
