| Hi all, getting my Disco on Saturday! |
|
Hi all,
I have been reading this forum lots in the run up to a decision to get a Disco, so thanks to all for the vast amount of information that you have collected.
I am getting a 56-plate SE, and am looking forward to Saturday morning when I drop off my current XC70 and drive off in the Disco.
My one regret with the 55k miles I did on the XC70 is that I didn't get it re-mapped, as I believe even the Police do this on their vehicles for the performance/mpg that it can give.
So, I am part-way through reading all the posts about re-mapping the Disco - I am leaning towards finding a friendly local dealer who I can re-visit if necesssary should I lost the re-map through a dealer service.
Cheers, Toby.

No plans unfortunately to put the TDV8 in the D3 (it's in the RR & RRS) as far as we know, slightly bigger (3litre) TDV6 due at some point in the not too distant future
Xenons, Bumpers & other D3 parts for sale

Hi all,
After disgracing my disco3 in the Tunisian desert I thought I should go back to basics and here I am. Thanks for the opportunity to share. About my desert experience. I took my family out in my disco3 7 seater and as the temperatures were in the high forties (47 C), I had the AC on. There was this sand dune called ong jmel (which means the camel's hump). One is supposed to climb this and down the other side and drive on to the star wars set below.
Having never driven in the sand be4 I put on diff lock select low and tried at full blast to climb the hump. First try I got part way and stalled. I reversed down the slope and tried again only this time I got a bit further along and got stuck in the sand. As I tried to reverse the disco 3 sank deeper in the sand until the spare tyre, and engine were sitting on the sand. In the meantime tourists in rented Toyota land cruisers were zipping past.
Finally I cleared some sand off around the tyres, laid down some desert shrubs and was able to reverse out of trouble. I hung my head in shame and took one of the ruts back to the star wars set. Then I realised that I should have put off the AC to generate more power. But was I right to put the disco in low drive train? I plan on doing this again and redeeming the disco 3 and can use some tips. The only saving grace was the splendid sunset in the desert.

Maybe select the sand setting next time Its not the height of the fall but the sudden stop at the bottom that hurts!!
