I'm looking to buy another disco which will be used by my partner, it's currently got 109,000 miles of mainly motorway usage on the clock, it's got full service history so can only assume it's been well maintained. What issues problems could occur at this milage and what should I expect teh engine to run up to. I'd be looking to keep the car for 3+ years and doing 15-20,000 per year.

As long as the belts have been changed (should be 105k) and software updates are done, then there's no reason why it won't keep on going. Character has about 300k on his one and the other ex highways ones will eaisly continue to do the mileage Bodsys Brake Bible

Diesel engines will always (with proper maintenance and use) outstrip any petrol engine, simply because they run at lower revs
The bits that go round and round and up and down etc etc last longer, because they are doing it less
Take your avarage HGV - it is nothing to clock over a million miles, because they typically run at 1500 rpm at 56 MPH
So (before I go off on a complete tangent) the D3 TDV6 is no exception, and 300 plus miles is not uncommon before anything too serious is needed, unless you hammer the living daylights out of yours, then it will be clapped before it gets to 100k Never get mad - get even !!
06 D3 now gone to family member and still going strong at 265k
previous vehicles:
04 D2 TD5 - (clocked 189k from new)
52 X-Trail 2.2 SVE
various euro boxes !

As mentioned, with a proper (not fanatical) maint regime there is every chance that the rest of the vehicle will fall apart around the engine and drivetrain. For reference, see Defender, Disco 1, Disco 2, FL1, all RR to 1998 ish....
Seriously though the prescribed oil, filter and belt changes will should keep it going. I've always used a bit of Redex too, just every third or fourth tank full and I'm convinced it helps, but there is a post somewhere on the pros and cons.
Go for it! PRH

It is a comfort to hear all this, sometimes when you read this site you get scared of whats in store in the future with repair bills etc.......
My HSE is 3 years old this week, done 39000 miles and I havnt had any bother at all with the engine or running gear. ...... I dont push it hard at all, tow a caravan though and mainly do motorway miles. I got a feeling though that the next 20,000 miles will bring some failures...egr valves spring to mind....its not so bad if its not a surprise, so thats the benefit of being educated on this site.......

Thank you to everyone who posted information, the disco had some uncertainty around service history so I walked away and will not look for another D3,.....with low miles on the clock!

After seven months at the dealer I finally picked up my Disco this week. Horrible story about a broken crankshaft and terrible customer service..
My engine gave up last fall with only 94.000km on the clock. All services done and well maintained by me.
I've spent several months now searching the web and it seems I'm far from the only one that have suffered a broken crankshaft. Actually (according tho the workshop manual) replacement engines now come with the stronger crankshaft from the 3.0 TDV6.
This little incident cost me about £13.000, thats including a service, some new EGR's and a battery.

Brede, do you know [report from dealer?], why the crank failed? Do you have the broken part ? Find out if Norwegian [consumer] legislation protects you for 'hidden defects' . If the crankshaft broke due to a fault in the product, or resulting from another failure [bearing..], you could be eligible for at least partial cover of the cost by LR. The 'life expectancy' of a diesel engine should be well over 200k kM. So in this situation [it died half way], I would claim at least 50% of the cost from LR. Do you have a legal insurance? Ask them!
