Bi-xenon bulbs
Does anyone know if the bi-xenon bulbs degrade and get dimmer over time?
I'm convinced that the headlights are dimmer than they were when I first had the car but I'm trying to decide if it is my eyes or the bulbs before I invest in a new pair.

is it your eyes ? staring at high intensity discharge is not going to go your eyes any good. There's one wheel on my wagon, but i'm still rollin' along, it's the cherokee, they're after me, but I'm singing a happy song

That'll be it then. I wondered what the 2 bright white spots were
Trouble is though it's the same when looking out from the inside

hid lifetimes are typically 3000 hours, halogens 2000 hours. hids increase in lumens up to mid lifetime then decrease gradually. check reflectors and lenses, some (cheap) hids output uv which degrades the polycarbonate reflectors and lenses/covers.There's one wheel on my wagon, but i'm still rollin' along, it's the cherokee, they're after me, but I'm singing a happy song

Thanks for that.
They are the same even with the lens clean and they look good and clear.
As far as I am aware they are the original LR ones that came with the car. It's an early 2006 on a 55 plate that I've had from 18 months old. I do drive a lot at night I'd be supprised if they are getting to the 3000 hour mark!!
I think it must be my eyes then!

I thought the same about mine and got a spare pair of lamps from hids4u (site sponsor,) when he had some on offer recently, having fitted them, I can't see much difference in the brightness TBH, so maybe the old ones weren't so bad after all.
When I took the old ones out and looked at the little capsule where the discharge takes place, it appears fairly clear, not blackened at all, just ever so slightly "milky".
Oh well, at least I've got some spares now in case the new ones fail Clive

i think you do get used to things too. going from my old car with halogens to th d3 xenons was amassive wow factor at first. i now have 55w hids in the main beam and fogs and they were WOW at first, but now getting used to that too. must upgrade oem xenons to 55w ballasts, then reversing lamps, break lights, blinkers, internal ....perhaps a few lasers, led lettering.....
