BAS EGR Blanking/Removal Kit **DONE**

Whistle Pheww, the weather held off long enough for me to continue/complete the removal process. I agree that the left side is a PITA to get at, but acheivable with patience. I actually found the bolt that holds the front of the airbox more of a pain to remove as the fan blades are in the way.

In total, I think I was at it for about 2.5hrs, took a slow methodical process but panic set in when I could'nt find a Torx bit that may have fell somewhere...........but had put it in my pocket and was sidetracked with fresh tea.

Anyway, a few pics..................Cheers Pete Bell, and TLO for the new gaskets n bolts which arrived just intime.

Butterfly Valve Removed

Right side EGR Pipe Removed, Stub Removed and BAS Blanking Plate installed

Left side EGR Pipe Removed, Stub Removed and BAS Blanking Plate installed

Right EGR Blanked

Left EGR Blanked - Note 2 different Bolts, one was lost in fitting process

Everything Bolted down, reletively Back to normal

Took the D3 for a road test, about an hour or so..................My findings are much better response and pick up, no soot/smoke, no hesitation and approx 4mpg increase on readout.

Happy MacLeod now

hi jason
looks good great pics, nice and clear,i guess the time it took is pretty good, best go steady
and not end up dropping bits that end up in the sump guard and then having to take that
off as well.

New bolts supplied by Pete are Torx, but I had also ordered new Bolts and gaskets from TLO just incase. However, one bolt went AWOL, hence using a BAS one Laughing Laughing

John, I think the EGR blanking was discussed to death, but I have never seen the pics which I wanted to see, and indeed Pete Bell's PDF file is excellent in approach, but no after pics....So thats the direction I took so that people can see, in a Blue Peter tone, here's one that was done earlier Laughing

Hope it help guys Thumbs Up

Jason, you mentioned 4mpg improvement on the fuel economy - from what to what?

I'm getting 27-28 on a mostly motorway run - but when I bought the car it was 28-30 on same runs.

Problem I also have is the intercooler is blocked, so half my problem could be that Big Cry

I had to go to work yesterday, and its a run I have done a zillion times and always returns an average of 26mpg on the screen. However yesterday it was reading 29mpg, and at one point till I booted it 31mpg.

I know the screen is'nt accurate, but I use it as a guide on a daily basis and already I have noticed an average gain, and the drivability is brilliant.

My D3 loves fresh air, and having seen with my own eyes what the TDV6 injests and the gunk I think with a D3 on 42k will give years of untroubled service.

So does the EGR work?, just a question really.....

In my relative cack mechanic way, is the Exhaust pulled through the EGR from the induction system, or is the exhaust under pressure through the EGR's.

Like I said, having done mine it would rid my curiosity at how it actually works

Hi,
Is the black 'disc' in the final picture the removed butterfly valve?

I think I'm gonna do mine purely for better MPG..
