I was suprised, I assumed it would be the earlier VIN, but no, my comment was in the correct range for the ones I have confirmed failed.

The reason I put both had never had a change is because it shows they also fail when haven't been disturbed, (i.e. rules out fitting issues etc) I think the part number oil pump is to blame, not if the belt has been changed or not..... we just need to establish how many part number ranges are affected.

And I've found the same issue mentioned by these members:
RRSport Site - Kiwigal (07 plate) & bosun (07 plate)
Disco3 site - darty11 (57 plate), wicket (07 plate in AUS), Disco Mickey
And mine, which is an 07 plate, 84k miles and falls into the '7a' bracket and no change of belt prior.

I believe that I am correcting in thinking that this engine is used by JLR not only in the Disco but also the Jaguar XJ & XK, and that Peugeot also use it in the 407 Coupé & 607, whilst Citroën use it in the C5 & C6.
Does anyone know whether the oil pump is the same or similar on the other marques, and if so whether there have been failures & revised designs.

The reason I disagree with topix is because I have tried it that way before, as this has been quoted on a few engines to do it this way. But from my experience when you build an engine up thats dry of oil circulating and new seals are fitted they over heat on startup from friction and the lip that seals gets hard and fails then starts to weep later on.
As this plate contains the oil pump when you change it then for a couple of seconds there is no oil flow until its filled all the oil galleries and putting oil on the seal and crankshaft before helps to prevent this occurence, You do it to the topix way if you think thats the way to do it but I know what way I am doing it.

Had been considering non main dealer for the belts, but not now! Will also be considering / seeking their assurance around replacement or not, of the oil pump. Long succession of Disco's since 2001...
SIII Lightweight - neglected & rusting. Bulkhead, A panels, vent panel & outriggers now disintegrated - Next years project!
