What is this in battery compartment?

I have just bought a new battery, and pulled the old one out. Once it was out I noticed this wire with a connector on the end swinging loose in the battery compartment (circled red on the piece of paper). It wasnt connected to anything when I noticed it, but it is a perfect fit into the other part of the connector also circled in red, just above the negative terminal in my photo..... should they be connected all the time or should it be disconnected???

thanks for any advice Thumbs Up

Think its the transit relay ( when they deliver new vehicles ) ..keeps the electrics use to a minimum

I would leave it if everything is working ok

Yea Wiggs is absolutely spot on with his guess (No surprise there Bow down

Most folks know just how experienced we are with vehicles that are several years into ownership, but few might appreciate that we also have quite a degree of actual hands on experience with them that goes right back to their very beginning.

We have therefore had the experience of PDI'ing quite a few brand new (as delivered by factory) Land Rovers, Removing and discarding this transit relay module, stuffing the now redundant connector to it behind the battery, and first time configuring the vehicles in many aspects such as language, set up, delivery mode removal, initial service interval set up and so on. All by the book of course Very Happy .
Some of the vehicles i PDI'd were destined to be returned back to the UK market.

So yeah, it may well actually have been me that shoved this now unused connector behind your battery, and if you replace your battery, simply shove it behind the new one too, as by the book stated Rolling with laughter

So what could we do if it was plugged back in then . . .?

It won't do anything.....as Wiggs said, it's there to provide a small amount of power to ancilliary circuits during transport and storage without flattening the main battery.

And what would you connect it to anyway? The transport relays usually end up on the floor of the workshop before you pick the car up.

It simply dis connects the battery from the vehicle completely unless you are trying to start it. Saves all the usual systems from depleting the battery EG Alarm, while the vehicle is in Transit Thumbs Up

The connector with the wiring on it plugs into the blank connector.

I was just going to ask the same question. I've had to take my battery out to charge it and spotted this connector, it fits nicely into a plug that is taped to the loom at the side of the battery.

If I remember it has one wire that is red with a green stripe, don't recall what colour the other wire is.
