Land Rover Monthly 08/2009 did a review of used Disco3's.
Their main down point was high oil consumption. As high as 1litre/1000 miles.
Not seen this issue mentioned anywhere else though.
Any comments?

Only ever heard of them using oil to that extent when the engines are new.
Our 05 plate 74k has used under half a litre over the last 11k

Yup, they can burn it for the first 10,000 miles, thereafter nil, none, not a drop.
I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

At 125,000 miles mine hardly uses a drop between services, not enough to worry about topping up. So I've got a nice collection of "free" oil from the dealer services as every time it has a service they give me one litre of oil.

complete load of Censored LRM, mine does 300-350 a days and no way do I fill him up with a drop for at least 15k miles and then only a quarter of a litre at most Thumbs Up

now on 385k, expect 400k by mid March 2011 Thumbs Up

I'm getting a really good feeling about this as I'll be looking for one around the 100K-130k
so many many more happy motoring miles in them

Yes, but remember that thorough servicing and careful use are paramount to Characters cars long life. I think I am right (and Character will correct me if I am wrong) in saying that his car has been dealer maintained throughout? It also has spent most of its life at a steady speed on the motorway, all be it towing a heavy trailer most of the time.

I do think it is a remarkable achievement, and is certainly the basis of a good story. It would be really good if he can eke 500k out of it Wink But I do appreciate it is his business, and reliabilty must be key to keeping it. It would be interesting to do the pence per mile calculation based on all costs including depreciation.

It's your fault we're heading to 400k - you said the same thing at 300k Shocked Rolling with laughter

Calculation should also take in to consideration Gross Income generated each month which at a rough guess is more than the value of it each month Whistle

Reliablity isnt really the issue these days as what has been replaced over the past 6 months should be good to see him over 500k, it's just the wish to get something with the toys you guys talk about Rolling with laughter Mr. Green

I'd only buy one if it had full history with bills to prove, to me a service book with just a load of stamps is worth nothing without the bills to back them up.
and I already have a LR trained specialist mechanic that will look after it for me
