Gearbox fails to change up or revs too high before changing

This problem appears to be getting worse...sometimes the car changes up fine, sometimes it delays to change up even on a slight throttle or it just won't and requires a flick of the left wrist to make it happen....no difference moving it to sport mode....just a pain in the bum!
What do you think the problem could be??

Wheel speed sensor reporting different speeds at the wheels? have you recently changed a wheel out do you have a slow puncture?
I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Or is it just cold weather? Now when it is cold (at least up here in North), the car keeps revs high from cold start until the fluids have warmed up -- for first several miles at least.
