BIG END FAILURE!
As some of you are aware my car 55 plate s with 58k on the clock let me down 2weeks ago first time ever but it was big time, no sign of any problems when I started the car in the morning, loaded all the kids up and went for a 20mile trip 2miles from my destination in a 30mph zone lifted of the accelerator speed camera pressed it again and rattle rattle sounded like it had dropped a valve but deep down i just new it wasn't that, anyway got picked up and taken to work whipped/i mean 2 nights later the head off on the drivers side,no problem in there, turned the engine over by hand and the middle piston come up to TDC and i got the clonk clonk as I turn it back and forth my suspicions were solved, engine out then, so got the body out the way got the engine out,I wasn't sure which route to take secondhand engine or a new short motor i didnt want to pay me money and take me chance,so went for a new short engine ie block, crank, con rods, pistons, oil pump, crankshaft seals, and head gaskets thats what you get all made up ready to bolt the rest of your bits on.Picked the new block up yesterday from TLO there were none in stock but he found me one thanks Nick so here is a pic of my new heart.

Made a little progress on the engine tonight, got one head on,the ladder frame on the sump and the sump, oil filter housing and high pressure fuel pump and the two cams dropped in.

Took the clutch and fly wheel off as well tonight, new fly wheel and clutch turned up today i was really surprised by the condition of the clutch plate it looked like it had been slipping and was cracked in a couple of places so wouldn't of gone on much longer anyway, the strange thing is i had no issues with the clutch before hand.

It's a valve from the vacuum pump.
It gets replaced when P017 is carried out.

Little update nearly finished the engine hopefully it will be back in the car tomorrow night if not sat morning, bear in mind i only work on it in the evenings after work

When they do the recall they have to remove the engine top cover, this requires removing the filler cap, this part hasnt been in the engine since the recall has it. could have been in the engine for a while and blocked up an oil feed hole and caused your problem has it???

Was a valve fitted to the vacuum pump, and this one "floating around loose" or was there no valve fitted to the vacuum pump.
Either way I would thin that whoever did the valve replacement as a part of P017 has some explaining to do.
How long ago was the work carried out?
Good luck.

Evening all sorry I've working late on the car so not had time to reply or update the last couple of nights
Hi sopjas wishful thinking but I don't think i would get anywhere, are you sure the vavle cover comes off
Hi NJSS the valve was just floating around loose, and once Q86ARR pointed me in the right direction i checked the vacuum pump and there is a valve in there but looks slightly different. The work was done about 4 to 6 weeks ago and i've not driven it much since either .
little up date engine is all done and back in the car and plumbed up ready for the body to go back on in the morning
Quick list of new parts fitted
Short block
Flywheel & clutch
most gaskets and seals
Timing belts and all rollers & idlers
Bottom pulley and bolt due to bigger crank bolt
Front & rear antiroll bar spacers fitted
Wax oil inside &out of chassis
All plugs on engine and chassis refitted with connector grease
And I'm sure there's more Wanted D4s non runners pm for competitive price.

Not the valve cover but if its dropped in the oil filler cap hole, got to ask the question how did it get their???'Just because you're breathing doesn't mean you're alive'

Maybe it had fallen down by the vacuum pump where there is a bracket to hold it there and because i took the head before removing the body when i removed the valve cover it may have dropped in without me noticing Or maybe they did drop it in there,I cant really prove it.I will be stripping the old block soon to see if I can find the cause of the problem if its lack of oil to that one big end it will be blue,if it is i will look into it further
Body is back on and all connected up just waiting on my oils and antifreeze which should be in tomorrow,so tomorrow nights the big fire up fingers crossed Wanted D4s non runners pm for competitive price.
