So is this now in effect that if you have a disco/SSRR/FF and you tow anything that has an empty weight that would push it over the 3.5 rule you need an O licence even if its for pleasure?

Ie, got a trailer weighing 480kg, car on top of it is 1200kg, FF is 2600kg. Total is 4280kg.

Yes you need to do or have sat and passed the E cat test or be a grandad righter, but if its purely for your pleasure/personal use and there is no gain but pleasure....

If that's the case thousands pulling Tin Tents would need an O Licence, Hire or Reward only.

C, Ie, got a trailer weighing 480kg, car on top of it is 1200kg, FF is 2600kg. Total is 4280kg.

D, Yes you need to do or have sat and passed the E cat test or be a grandad righter, but if its purely for your pleasure/personal use and there is no gain but pleasure....

A, its not the empty weight its the plated weight.

B, personal use is not covered.

C, the totals for tacho / O licence is made from plated weight not real weights. So I would guess the trailer is a 2000kg one & your car is plated at 3500kg total 5500kg even with no load in the car or trailer.

C-1, for C&U re the cars capacity to tow the real weight should be used.

D, yep.

Ah so any personal use is fine still! Thas what I was getting worried about. Maybe the front page of this can be fully updated as 18pages is a lot of reading when it could just be in the first post maybe to make clear on tacho, O licence and personal use

On a roadside stop expect to have to prove its personal use.

IE if the car on the trailer is not registered to you its likely they wont believe you.
