Retro fit cruise, how easy how cheap |
|
Hi, i am wishing to fit cruise if its a cheap option as i got a great tdv6 at a great price but its a pain on 200 mile round trips without cruise fitted
I have been told it isnt just a case of fitting the steering wheel switches and getting the ecu turned on.
I have also been told that as my car never had cruise, i will need to update a new wiring loom and a crusie module etc and this would be £1k upwards if the dealer were to do it?
My 2004 td5 was easy it was just a case of adding the steering wheel switch.
Would be grateful if any members can give me the definative answer so i can either forget cruise or get the bits necessary if it is a straight forward job
Cheer in anticipation ....................................................................................................

I'm pretty sure it IS just a matter of adding the switches and getting someone with a faultmate to activate it in the Car Config File.
I am looking to do this myself too, so I will be watching this thread with great interest Dennis

From what I know its just switch and enable.
I have the switch fitted, just waiting to get the ccf enabled once I have procured a MSV

Thanks nighthawk, i was about to buy the steering wheel switches for cruise yesterday from the main dealers for £49 all incl, which i thought was fine, but then i asked the question of "is this all i need" at which point i got a long answer saying i need a load of other stuff like modules, wiring loom, and ecu activation.
Previous threads, like yourself seem to contradict this answer, so hoping someone who has had this done already will catagorically tell us whats needed

Dealer is talking crap, I've done it on 2 D3's, just fit the switch to the wheel and get it enabled, no more to it

I had this done not long ago. I bought the parts from TLO, (A site sponser and all round top guy who can get any apart), and while I was at it I bought the audio control switch for the steering wheel. Local independant fitted the switches and activated the cruise control for me. get both switches, not only does it look better having both, it makes life easier. Man with no D3 anymore, but cant leave the forum....how sad.

Agree, may as well fit audio controls while the wheel is off and they don't need activating!

Sorry to hijack the post... I bought the switches last year from this site, never had them fitted as was told the same from the dealer and would have invalidated the warranty etc...so still in my house.
I am taking my GS over to France on the 10th Feb and was wondering if anyone can help activate the cruise control for me (happy to pay for the effort!). Also if the steering wheel needs to come off to fit the switch.
I am based in between London and Cambridge.
Any help gratefully received.
Regards
Paul
