Christmas Eve...I can still remember the excitement....
....not because tomorrow is Christmas....but because on this day last year I went to pick up my Disco..
The journey up to the dealers was fraught...loads of snow in a 5-series BMW ....the return journey was much easier 8)
Regrets ?...very few,the BMW was an excellent car,but I love the Disco, whereas I just admired and appreciated what the 5-series was...
I do miss 45mpg,but my D3 will be followed by a D4 some day so that says it all really
Merry Christmas everyone"Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

Strange that, went to a 5 series estate & loving it. Love the performance, even though 520d still has more punch than the remapped D3, loving averaging 47mpg (D3 25mpg), more comfortable on a long haul and it feels a lot more quality than the D3s I've had. Best thing is in 6 months & 6k miles not a singe thing has gone wrong, same time scale for both D3s I've had from new, both had been in the garage for weeks! OK it's no good in snow but then it'll stay in the garage and use the D3.

Del,in the 3 and half years I had it from new,the 5 series was utterly faultless, and I thought,a "keeper"....but after 2 years of the return of winter and being stuck in the house for 10-12 days,I had had enough (the final straw was my daughter getting stuck at nursery).....
I couldn't justify keeping both cars, and our annual mileage is much lower than it used to be.....
With the benefit of hindsight,my best bet would probably have been winter tyres for the BM....but the kids have loads of new friends who live on farms,so as a car-for-all-seasons,the Disco makes more sense "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

12 months ago we ran a pair of D3s as we lived full time up in the Heelands. Ideal for there and meant SWMBO wasn't housebound if I was away. Whilst the Jazz on winter tyres could handle up to a few inches of snow, she decided she wanted a D3 as she was going to be housebound if I was away. When we moved down to the soft south we discovered it doesn't snow down here and sold hers, then replaced it with the BM. My D3 is now the same as the rusty Deafner on the lawn, an offroader/winter/general dogs body mobile.
