Remap questions

Hi everyone. I've been reading lots of the excellent posts on here for months. .......

......And at long last I've now got my D3. An 05 TDv6 manual, with just under 102k on the clock. It's a fantastic drive, but coming from a remapped Td5, with full stainless, decat, egr removed etc, the D3 feels just a little flat.

Who would you recommend for a remap? I'm wanting more low down power & I don't really want great plumes of black smoke. (Which the Td5 has)

Do you find a remap causes clutch slip? This has happened on my Td5, as manufactures tend to have a clutch which is just within the tolerances of the standard map.

Many thanks, Jane Very Happy

HI Jane

If I were you I'd look at Pete Bell/Bell Auto Services - a site sponsor - who has a phenomenal knowledge of the D3's electrical and power systems and does re-maps which are very well regarded by Forum members.

Scroll down the 'Sponsors' list on the right hand header until you get to BAS/Bell Auto Services

Not a million miles from you either - to the SE of York Thumbs Up

I didn't realise Bluefin did a handset for the D3. Does it have more than one map on?

I had a BAS remap at 13k miles, and have now covered 57k miles so 44k miles ago.

No clutch problems, I drive the car hard and achieve an accurate 25.5 MPG - that's calculated on a spreadsheet since the car was new, from "brimmed" to "brimmed".

A recent change of tyres seems to have lopped about 1.5 MPG off the normal fuel consumption.

Thanks. I think the dual mass flywheel on the D2 is just not suited to the extra power of a remap.

Good to know that the D3 copes better with it. Extra mpg is always welcome too. Living up the hills isn't the best for fuel consumption. Laughing

A very big +1 for Pete at Bell Autos. Had a remap for a year now and no problems, took a friend out last week who has just got a D3 thats standard and he was very impressed with it, he is now going to get one as soon as possible. As others will say on here it makes the D3 do what it should have done when it came from the factory.

Which Remap should i choose is a question that has been asked many times before and done to death repeatedly on this forum.

It seems that everyone is happy to reccomend what they chose. And no one has any real side by side experience of more than the one they chose.

But time and time again, one name always gets more recommendations on such threads than anyone else and this is clearly not by co incidence but for a reason.

You seem to appreciate a remap is a remap that under ideal situations are Like for like and are worried far more about the "what if" scenarious.

In this respect after remapping my D3 with a BAS remap i am a prime example of this nightmate situation.

I naturally feared the worst, was looking to blame Pete and BAS but instead got a level of support and assistance that i would never have expected. In a very calm and almost matter of fact way Pete explained that i had a split in my intercooler hose and many other contributing factors that after checking were absolutely spot on and after rectifying based on his instruction gave me a degree of what is now know as permagrin that i still have to this day.

Right there and then i knew that it was not so much the remap i had invested in as much as the person who supplied it and the degree of knowledge and experience and after support they provide.

In this respect alone Pete at BAS has absolutely no equall.

and i echo whats been said above Thumbs Up

some say i would say that because i work closely with pete and you'd be correct i do but thats the reason i do because i get 100% support from him plus the fact I've had all the others and they just don't stack up for me and thats my opinion only so don't you all get on your high horses , and start a great big debate over it Thumbs Up

i have a pro tune map on mine and it made a huge difference so much smoother and more mid range torque made it such a better car to drive would fully recommend a remap

I have an autologic remap and have been very happy with it . It is smoothe and progressive ,I had a improvement in fuel economy over the original and it makes towing my 1800kg caravan a dream even with all my family in the car ( all seven seats full Shocked ) so as said above I can't compare it to Pete's remap as I've only ever had the autologic one , however I would rate it as good . Thumbs Up
