The witter one looks a better set up with a bolt through the bit in the cross member ( if I have read it correct )

As I posted a lot earlier following my problems with the removable bar, I replaced it with a towtrust one. After a bit of discussion with LR, my dealer refunded me the total price of my towbar as it was no longer fit for purpose following their "downgrading" of the towbars intended use Razz

A point of interest - the new Land Rover multi-height towbar is now rated at 250 kilos nose weight. The previous one was 150 kilos. When you think of the loading that may occur on the ball after a multi-axle trailer has rode over a speed ramp & the rear axle is still on the crest, leaving the front axle in the air, this is still not a lot. I tow a Brian James 3 axle car transporter & the nose weight of 100 kilos when static must raise to a much higher figure at that point. The multi-height bar has side bars so if the retaining pin retracted & the bar dropped down at least the trailer should stay attached as it dragged along the ground - not merry but at least survivable. With the de-mountable it would be a disaster for anyone getting in the way.
It is interesting to see so many de-mountable bars for sale on Ebay all of a sudden. A case of the unscrutable selling to the unwary?
If you want to know VOSA's view on this, the engineer dealing with it is Andrew Tudor phone no. 01179543247. If you speak to him tell him if Land Rover have not contacted you about this issue as he has instructed them to do so. There seems to be no definitive limit as to what you can tow with the de-mountable but keeping your fingers crossed & hoping for the best seems to be the best plan.

If this were true then why hasn't VOSA instructed a recall ??

I have also contacted VOSA and they have not relied or confirmed any of what has been said, intresting inthat if it is that serious I would have expected a reply quickly.

I have a D4 commercial and it needs to tow 3500kg to earn its living. What do people think of the tow trust bar looks big and ugly but well made do I need to go to these extremes or would the lr hd one be better.

Towing 3500kg I would most certainly have a fixed towbar. I can't speak for the genuine Landrover one as I have a TowTrust, but I have no complaints about it. Its a hefty piece of kit, well made and a fraction of the price Thumbs Up

Before I posted did a search on towbar and did not find much but tonight found your other posts and read the whole thread. Looks like it will be a tow trust probably a fixed as I need an adjustable drop plate. If the bar sticks out a few more inches I will be able to see it in my camera.

I'm towing 3.5t every week with the genuine LR multi height and have had no issues. Spoke with my dealer and they are not aware of it being down graded and are still selling them. Thumbs Up

The Landrover multi height towbar is the fixed towbar and has not been "downgraded", its the removable towbar that is now deemed "only for occasional use" Thumbs Up

"only for occasional use"

Probably it is one of the reason why is removable Wink
