faultmate fcr vs IID tool
Iam gointo purchase either faultmate fcr or IID tool this afternoon but cant quite make up my mind, i believe the IID tool does mor and can read live MAP and MAF data, does anyonehave any views on this.
It's probably best to search the forum & read the various threads about both Faultmate FCR or IID tool - particularly if you are going to buy in the next few hours.

I bought the IID because it can do more, it does the fault reading/clearing but also reads the live data, can be used to alter suspension settings (good if you want to go off road without having to mess around with height sensor rods) and because it is being updated quite often with new features and functions.
The guys who build them are sponsors here and are active on the forum.
You'll probably get a torrent of responses telling you to buy the BBS MSV2 but at 4 times the price it's not really a contender.

Clearly the MSV is unsurpassed but in my view but the FCR oozes quality but is too low on features and too high in price. The Hawkeye has all the routine DIY features (live data, EPB, service reset, steering angle, suspension tight tolerance etc) but feels a little naff in the hands and you have to add the single black dongle for some D3 systems but it is VIN free. Then came the IID Tool.
I tried them all and bought the Hawkeye as the IID Tool really was not ready IMHO and the MSV has an interstellar price. The VIN free aspects of the Hawkeye have been used by a number on this forum and they have not complained about the naff and slightly creaky design.
Time stands still for no one and the IID Tool has become the product it promised and gets the Robbie .
If you like the idea of VIN free and can live without the CCF functions of the IID or don't have cc buttons then don't forget the Hawkeye. Otherwise the IID Tool is the new king.

I can only rehearse my own experiences....
Had an FCR - thought it was great, did the job of reading and clearing codes. Well built and designed.
Upgraded to an MSV-2 - fantastic bit of kit. Does everything I need and more. Miss the convenience of the FCR though, still thinking about a replacement but not sure if should be another FCR, or IID or even Hawkeye.

I also considered the Hawkeye but was put off by "need a lead for this, an adapter for that" but must admit that VIN free and separate display caught my eye.
FCR was at the bottom of my list in this price category!2014 D4 XS

I agree with James. I'm going to get the IIDtool when funds allow, and I can convince SWMBO that I really need one.

Yeah Colin's warnings almost put me off with 'lead for this etc, must buy that etc', but the reality is very different.
One box that has a lead screwed to it with the OBD plug at the other end. When you select a control unit that needs the dongle the unit tells you to fit a single black dongle on the end of the OBD plug. That's it, there are just 3 things in the kit - a lead, a dongle and the box itself. Nothing else is needed and it is child's play to operate.

I too have bought the IID tool - party on price, partly on features, partly on promised features.
I discounted the MSV-2 simply on cost and that I have already had all the updates I need doing done - and any new ones, I have a Bodsy to assist
Multi-vehicle licence wasn't an option as SWMBO moans enough now that I spend too much time messing with the car!!
FCR was one that I had looked at, but never got around to getting one.
So, I got the IID tool and I think it has pretty much paid for itself - got it, cleared all the faults and the phone buttons on the steering wheel started to work again,
And I've calibrated the height - which was out and leaned to one side Mark.
2006, D3 SE Auto - gone but not forgotten.
