WANTED: Expedition Roof Rack Fittings

Recently I acquired an Expedition Roof Rack with some fittings but the 2 pieces of metal
that go into the track at the front where the front supports go are missing
along with the 2 bolts that are screwed into the car.

I got everything else, but only the parts that go under the roof runner
are missing. Seems when it was taken off the car, someone forgot about these.

Are these obtainable anywhere or does someone have them for sale?
Is the whole set available also from TLO for example?
I do have 2 of the middle ones that need replacing as a bolt snapped on each.

Cheers

Hess

I might be able to get you the ones that go in the runners - I've asked locally for somebody to make me some as I had the same problem as you Hess with the bolts shearing off - one actually pinged up after tightening and hit me in the face Surprised
I'll ask if they can make some of the front brackets too Thumbs Up

Hi CDS,

That'd be ace, thanks ever so much!

I have the brackets, it's only the rectangular piece of metal with a groove in the middle
that goes under the runner that I'm missing. (1 for each side)
Along with the corresponding bolts that is fastened into the car body.

I also need 2 middle fitting plates with the bolts sheared off.

Please let me know!

Kind regards,

Hess

Hey Ste,

It's on at the moment but the front is dipping a bit.

Hope to straighten it out with the brackets.

Otherwise I'd probably have left it Thumbs Up

They dip a bit at the front even with the brackets fitted and bolted down. I used mine without front brackets for months. Like i say just don't put anything heavy at the front.

Hess, I'm a bit lost here:

The front fixings on mine screw directly into the mounting hole in the roof.......have you by any chance got extended/ full length roof rails as that maybe where I'm confused, as I'm using the standard length roof rails (I thought the G4 expo rack wasn't compatible with extended roof rails, but I may be wrong!)

The hole circled screws straight into the pre-threaded hole in the roof:

Hmm... I think there is supposed to be a small metal plate
that goes under what you've circled and sits between the runner and the car body.

It has a groove running the length of it that goes over the raised ledge in the track
of the car body.

That has 2 bolt holes, one for bolting into the car, the other to attach that bracket.
A bolt will then go through the runner through the one you circled and into the metal plate
under the runner.

I only know this from the fitting instructions picture I found.

I'll try and upload that.

This is the document.

http://www.disco3.co.uk/gallery/albums/use...ctions.pdf

When you look at the picture where all the parts are the ones I'm on about
are on the right with a circled x2 pointing at it.
2 holes with a groove running along the middle.

Hope that clarifies my poor explanatory attempt.

Ah.... I get it now! This isn't what I thought you were after at all!!
I thought you needed that actual brackets. I'm missing those bits too (as I didn't realise they even existed!) mine sits quite securely and happily without them tbh. I can't really see that they perform an essential function! I won't be looking for any for mine, they probably just pick up some leverage or weight from the rear of the base of the front bracket.
Must remember to follow that ridiculously low weight limit too!
Mind you that's why the seller of mine was selling, cos he wanted to be able to stand on it to shoot, and figured he was over the weight limit!!

It will work perfectly well without those - most 2nd hand racks omit them. When I had an exped rack, I bought some nylon strip about 6mm x15mm cross section and drilled some holes to match the spot on the gutter and then cut a groove to match the seam, once in place it fitted under the trim and probably spread the load better than the original.
