Cambelt or not to be?

Hi, Hoping to find the answer to something that is confusing me ( not too difficult to do at my age! ). The garage that serviced my Jeep, in the days before I discovered the delights of D3 ownership, are telling me that my 2007 Disco (mileage 85000) does not have a cambelt but a chain and therefore does not require renewing. This is at odds with all the manuals and posts on this forum. Would appreciate if somebody, who lifts the engine bonnet more than I do, could give me a definite answer on this one. By the way, the garage is an independant one, neither Jeep nor Landrover but have always found them reliablle and efficient. Thanks Thumbs Up

It has two timing belts one at the front and one at the rear of the engine, it also has two chains that join the exhaust valves camshaft to the inlet valves camshaft to drive it.

Flack Thumbs Up

Timing Belt

Amazed how quickly you can get a reply on this forum! Will show aforementioned garage your answers and then I have choice of change timing belt(s) or change garage (or both). As a follow up question then, would it be ok to go beyond 100000 mls before thinking of changing Bow down
( omitted to say, it is def a diesel TDV6 )

7 years or 105,000 miles is the recommended change most people do get them done early and in some cases have narrowly avoided even bigger bills in doing so. Don't forget to have the pulleys changed also.

If they don't know whether it has belts or not then they are unlikely to have the locking pin kit. I don't think I would trust them to do it if it were me.

Remember, If your car has had the High Pressure Fuel Pump recall, then it will have had the rear belt changed as part of the recall.

Your profile says you have a MY07, might be worth changing the oil pump too ?

Thanks for all the advice. Will have to tell SWMBO to economise so I can raid the bank account to get it done! The local (Hull) Landrover dealer has changed hands for the third time in recent years but there is a small garage ( I think called K & R) who are ex Landrover mechanics who specialise and should be cheaper anyway.

As posted above, some 07 discovery have had a couple of issues just after the timing belt change. If your gararge doesn't know that you have a cambelt I wouldn't let them near it.

2 places near you , duckworth land rovers just over the water in market raisen, or green oval garage in Leeds. And chane the water pump and belt idlers whilst your in there.

Dont ignor this one..mines just gone at 81k, and now I'm reeling the cost when it comes in. Always had my 2008 D3 serviced on time, always to a main steeler and its still gone early. I'm chasing JLR for somethinig towards his as its gone so early and routine services as per their intervals is the only thing i've got on my side, so I'd say have it done on time for sure

Did mine at 85k just to be safe, as the 7 years was up in about 6 months time, got in early and to my suprise it looked as though it hade been done previously, I say that as there were marks on the cam gears Rolling Eyes I've only owned the car for the last 25K

It still got changed so that I know it was done Thumbs Up

My mate uses K and R for his disco 2 and he is very happy with them. I rang Landrover services down Goulton street and he said they only change the front one and leave the back as is, so didn't go to him. He reckons he has a customer who has done 168k with no probs, i expect he will one day,

If you use K and R would appreciate feedback Thumbs Up
